Dennis Lindsey feels he owes Richard Jefferson a lot

Is this an outright admission that it was a tanking move, or is he suggesting that the fans should see something else?
Why does he feel the Jazz owe so much to these vets? It's our job to rehabilitate players that GS neglects? I get the value of creating positive relationships with agents and a good reputation with players, but I think this is too much, especially at the expense of a guy like Kanter who could definitely be playing more minutes if not for this commitment to players who clearly will not be on this team long term. It's extremely frustrating to have seen only 15 minutes of the lineup most of the fans on this board were excited for when this year began.

The most frustrating thing to me about this season is the part I highlighted. How that lineup can't get any playing time is an indictment on the intelligence of our coach. There is no way that we should get through this season without knowing the strength and weaknesses of this lineup. And if we don't see it on the court then how are they going to know what this lineup can do as a core group of players? How will we know which of them (if any) don't fit in?

Why do the jazz have to show loyalty to some guy who has already announced he is going title hunting next year?

Who is billy Duffy going to 'deliver' to the jazz in return for letting Biedrens dress and not play for all of December?

Maybe mr. Tanner will let the jazz sign Luke Ridinour or Shane battier next offseason?

But for the life of me I can't figure out why the Jazz need to be concerned with building a relationship with a player that has said he wants to leave, and an agent who only has one other client.

The Jazz might say they have not lost their way, but they have certainly lost me along the way.

In other words, you don't care about context or fact and simply want to cry on an internet message board about perceived problems that don't exist.
You're right, let's just keep quiet and let it be. Play RJ and Marv 40 mpg. Next year when they leave, sign more mediocre vets to come in and take their place playing 40 mpg. Just as long as Burks and Kanter never get a real shot. We'll talk about rebuilding when in reality all we're doing is charity work for washed up hacks. Then we can always be just bad enough to either not make the playoffs or get trounced in the first round, and just good enough to never acquire enough star power to be a team worth giving half a damn about.

And then when fans who actually want this team to become something make their voices heard, we'll all become internet tough guys and tell them to stop crying.

Good plan.

I'm down with playing Marvin and Richard 40 mpg, preferably with the entire rest during the first 8 minutes of the game.

No.....................in other words he is right on and you are in right field.

I heard Darko Milicic is having some troubles in the league. Maybe DL can bring him in and resurrect his career!!!!!!! Who need a youth movement we could be the last hoorah movement! The one foot in a grave movement!!!! The I though I was done since I couldn't even sniff the court on a horrible team movement!!!!!

Stop posting scenes from this ****ing movie. It's ****ing terrible and not funny.

No, in other words he didn't read the post detailing how Burkes' minutes and roll have been steadily increasing while those of Richard Jefferson have been decreasing.

IN OTHER WORDS, you're getting exactly that for which you are bitching.

I haven't read the whole thread, but isn't it fairly obv that the FO is showcasing RJ in hopes of getting some value out of his expiring come the deadline? This quote reeks of it and RJ's contender comments only speak further to this.

****, I thought this **** was a no brainer. Am I wrong?

No, because next summer when we sign [insert free agent name here] or pick up [insert salary dump guy's name here] in a salary dump with the cap space available from letting Jefferson expire, we'll argue how we effectively traded Jefferson for [insert free agent name here] or [insert salary dump guy's name here].

Everyone has an opinion about how the Jazz either are or are not doing things correctly. It spans a wide field. I'm glad that DL wants to develop good relationships with veteran players and their agents. I think that in the long-term, it could very well help them to add the final pieces to putting a contending team together. The Houston Rockets have added Dwight Howard, James Harden, Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin via Free Agency and trades. It's an element of the game that needs to be considered. . .

With that said, I personally think that it is a mistake to give Richard Jefferson big minutes regardless of how much or little success he brings to the team. I think that they'd be better off by playing their young guys more than they do. Wins and losses should not even be a part of the equation right now. I understand why people think that it's important, but I personally think that finding out exactly what we have in Kanter, Favors, Hayward, Burks, Burke and Gobert should trump everything else. I'm perfectly fine with even trying Marvin and Evans at the 3 to see what they can bring long-term (even though neither is a good fit for the position) and then bring Jefferson in off the bench.

My biggest hope is that DL is helping to resurrect his career by letting Corbin highlight him and then include him in a trade that nets assets. That's really the only way that he helps this team long-term.

We are almost halfway through the season and both players average 27 minutes per game. Now tell me, which player is going to be here next year? Which player has a higher ceiling? Most importantly, which player is better?? This was supposed to be Burks' year to play starter minutes, along with the rest of the core young players, only to have yet another hack be brought in to take his place. Corbin wants a veteran presence in the starting lineup, I get that. He likes Burks as a scorer off the bench. Ok then. Go ahead and start RJ and bring Burks off the bench. But playing him more than 8-12 mpg is a joke and disservice to other players that have been here longer and have proven they deserve an increased role.

My point, going back to the OP, is that the Jazz don't owe RJ anything. Starting him and playing him 8-12 mpg is more than he'd get anywhere in the league... just like the minutes wasted on Raja Bell, Josh Howard, Jamaal Tinsley, Earl Watson, etc were more than they'd've gotten on any other NBA team.

You're giving these guys too much credit. What makes you think they can read?

1. Alec is getting starter minutes. Among players with 15+ games played, he's 133rd in minutes per game (30 teams X 5 starters = 150 starters).

2. Since the start of December, Alec has been averaging 28 minutes per game. RJ has been averaging 24.5 minutes per game. Alec has also "closed" more close games than RJ.

24 is twice as much as 12.

People defending this whole issue of wasting playing time on mediocre vets that won't even be on the team next year, and that of "owing" anything to them in the first place, either don't truly care about this team ever going anywhere or are simply just not very smart. We've seen this same song and dance for three years now, with a seemingly endless list of overplayed hacks that left the first chance they got, leaving us nothing in return.

Just out of curiosity, can anyone name the players on the Jazz who are shooting above 40% from downtown?

Not one of you defending/ not entirely disagreeing with DL's comment has given a single, legitimate reason WHY the Jazz owe anything to Richard Jefferson.
It's not about us owing RJ, it's about doing something for him so that both he and his agent owe us. His agent will repay us by using his influence on his clients in our favor, and RJ will go to his next team and gush about what a professional organisation we were and how grateful he is, giving us a good name about the league. And other agents will see what we did and will also influence their clients in our favor.

Don't underestimate the power of agents. I don't know why they keep listing a player's college next to his name, they should list his agent.

About time. It should be interesting to see what exactly his value truly is. He has played better than pretty much anyone would have thought possible AND he has a valuable expiring contract with the upcoming free agency next offseason. As long as they don't have to include any picks or young players in a deal I'm all for it.
