What's new

Donald Trump

it's the election of populism. People are full-blown going against the establishments on both sides. And rightfully so-- citizens across our continent have every reason to be sick and tired for establishment politicians who protect their own interests and don't really give a **** about the working/middle class constituents that they're supposed to represent. Trump panders to this population by promising jobs, and safety, and strength against international forces. Bernie promises a better welfare net, better schools, better infrastructure, better health care, and less hawkish foreign policy.

People are tired of "politicians", and want people who share an equal distaste for politicians like they do. That's why Bernie went from fringe-candidate to now a politician (who as of today) is leading Hillary on national voting polls. THat's why Trump is destroying his robotic competitors. They don't stand a chance against him-- it's over, quite frankly. Trump's momentum won't be stopped.

Now the question becomes who we want to run against Trump (unless you're for Trump yourself). If it's Hillary vs Trump, she's going to lose== specifically because of the environment of this election. Establishment politicians simply aren't trusted as much anymore.
Sounds about right.

I will be so pissed if trump wins.

One thing trump does is gets people to the polls.
I have never voted before, but I will this time around simply to cast my vote for whoever trumps opponent is

Which is maybe because the education environment has been made less inflammatory due to professors being told by administration to not provoke arguments. It feeds right back into my point. Is that what you want?

No, you're not even understand what I'm saying. People characterize political correctness as this monolith, which it very obviously isn't. That was my point. If that's absurd to you, then fine.

It is absurd because it is you that is missing the point. Your example proves it.

This has gone far past racist language and provoking fights. It has gone into don't say or do anything that might offend anyone at any point. it has gotten to the point of silencing opposing opinions. That is something I do not embrace.

Isn't Utah typically considered to be more highly educated than many other places? Or is the stereotype of the Trump supporter as being typically uneducated untrue? Or are Utahans more likely to be put off by loud and rude people because we are nice? I just can't figure out the whole Trump phenomenon. I was one who thought it would fizzle out.

Trump in 3rd place in the most recent Utah poll. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/e...utah_republican_presidential_caucus-5765.html

Maybe there's hope yet.

Sorry that was snarkier (is that a word) than I meant it. It is surprising but I think the Latino vote kill shim in the general.

typical Stoked. Conflating issues. The discussion was about latinos, not about transgendered folks.

Isn't Utah's in June? It'll be over by then. Three of four need to drop out and everyone and everything needs to coalesce around that 1 to stand a legit chance of slowing him down.

No, they moved it up. They are now doing a caucus in March for that very reason. I think the Democrats are doing the same, but I haven't looked up the details. The Republican caucus date is Mar 22. If you can't go in person, you can even vote via an app. The first step is to go to here and pre-register before Mar 15 (click "voting online", then the "pre-register now!" button): https://utah.gop/caucus-hq/. You can read about the rest of the process here: https://ivotingcenter.us/utgop2016/

I think I read the other day that immigration is a much smaller issue in Utah, which is why he doesn't have as much traction there. Does that sound right?
