Early Onset Psychosis Linked To Mary Jane Use

Dal, I'm not convinced criminalizing possession/use of drugs of abuse is effective in curbing use/abuse/addiction. I think it probably does more harm than good. So yes, absent better evidence that the best way to deal with drug abuse is by throwing people in prison, I think all drugs should be decriminalized (at the very least).

You do raise a good point-- after all, look how 'successful' the prohibition era was. However, with modern society being so steeped in drug-abuse legislation, I feel like we might want to take the approach of 'getting our feet wet' before we jump into the swimming pool, if that makes any sense. If weed usage plummets after legalization, then maybe this is something we can consider for other drugs as well. I'd suggest we take it one step at a time.

I feel like people really don't understand how pointless the laws against weed are, in terms of inhibiting access. Within 15 minutes, I could think of 3 different people to call and ask for weed if I wanted it by tonight (if I ever smoked, that is).

I don't think usage has to go down to make decriminalization the better option. For instance, the number of people who used alcohol decreased during prohibition. The amount an individual drinker drank went up sharply. Also, beer and wine were the drinks of choice before prohibition but hard liquor became by far the most popular form of alcohol during prohibition and that trend continued for decades after prohibition. But disregard for the law amongst your average citizen went way way up because of prohibition. Corruption of police and politicians, and in turn the way people regarded them, also spiked. Petty thugs went from obscurity to positions of immense power and wealth. Alcohol was harmful and it still is. Prohibition alone, not even considering that alcohol consumption didn't go away and continued to do its harm, was more destructive to our society than alcohol ever could be. Marijuana prohibition filled the gap left by alcohol prohibition and has continued the trend of a more militaristic and invasive police force that is more the enemy of the average citizen than their protectors.

How about humans increasing the THC level of marijuana plants from the 60's to what we have today?
That's a ******** claim pushed by the drug warriors. High potency strains existed in the 60s, just as they exist today. The distribution and availability of these strains is different today, sure, but cannabis has been bred for drug content for thousands of years. Hash, which is effectively THC (and other compounds) with very little plant matter was possibly more widely available 30-40 years ago than it is today, for example. You just get less Mexican schwag,

Dal and Gameface: Rates of use shouldn't be the concern IMO. Abuse should be what we're concerned about. As alluded to by GF, it's the rise in abuse (along with the rise in organized/violent crime) that made the prohibition of alcohol such a failure.

Serious question. Not just for GVC, but maybe he has an opinion. How about extracts and hash? Do concentrated forms of THC turn it into an inherently more addicting (or should I just say addicting) and dangerous drug?

My take has always been that you can only really get so high and not much except maybe more drowsiness comes from going further. Is that true of extracts and hash?

The lethal dose is so high, it's virtually impossible to kill yourself with weed, As far as I know, there's not a single recorded death directly attributed to cannabis consumption anywhere.

I don't have a good answer to the addiction question. I don't see how smoking so much that you pass out/feel uncomfortable would increase the chance you become a habitual heavy user. Some people prefer being high to being sober; I think it's as simple as that.

Disclaimer: I think it's important that people educate themselves as best they can about the potential risks of consuming cannabis or other drugs. Opinions expressed on message boards shouldn't be accepted as "truth".

Hash oil is being consumed in e-cigarette type devices more and more right now and those that I talk to say there is not a huge difference but it is much more convenient to use that way.

In all seriousness, what is a medical dose of marijuana like? I have a pain control doctor I am seeing now who also has a practice in california and he wants me to try it for pain. Apparently the dosage is very small, and meant to be a maintenance thing. I have my reservations, but I am considering it as it would probably beat chronic pain and I am hoping have far fewer side effects than my current pain meds.

the oils and waxes get you sooooo much more ****ed up. The wax is almost like a different drug. One hit had me stoned for 8 hours. Like, REALLLLY, stoned.

Throw the addiction talk out.
