El Paso Shooting

The kid at the Garlic Festival in California was taken out. In a scenario like that, every moment the police allow the shooter(s) to live gives the shooter an opportunity to kill someone else. Everyone is in immediate danger. It might be normal to tell an armed assailant to surrender, lay down their weapon, get on the ground, etc., but once shots are fired, I think the game changes.

I'd also like to hear how these shooters were captured.

I'm pretty sure he committed suicide from the coroner's report.

Gotta love the morons at the Gateway Pundit who are making false claims about the Dayton shooter. They have his “voter information” from 2006 and it says he’s from the “Democrat Party.”

He would’ve been 11 in 2006 and the “Democrat Party” only exists in the minds of deplorables but who cares about facts? It’s all about spreading misinformation so 35-40 percent of the population can continue to live in an alt reality.

Video games incite tons of violence. My years of Mario Kart experience makes me chuck banana peels and turtle shells all over the road when I’m driving so I can get to Costco first.

Agreed. I’m so violent from all those days I spend playing Madden, Sonic, Zelda, Goldeneye, Warcraft, Starcraft, and diablo. When I’m about to be tackled by coworkers who want to waste my time talking, I spin out and scramble to the left, Vick style, and I always escape.

Which is why japan has zero mass shootings, they banned video games there.

And of course, the United States is the only country with violent video games. What a ****ing stupid argument.

Right? And the paper thin argument that we need to “ban video games” will work because everyone will get rid of the video games while nothing can be done about guns cuz criminals don’t follow laws is just so transparently dumb. But, it’s par for the course.

Repubs must defend the NRA at all costs.

Anyone else split on this?

It sure would be nice if the potus came out and condemned white supremacists and comforted the nation. You know, demonstrate leadership.

At the same time, we all know every time he opens his *** he just makes things worse.

So maybe he should just stay at the golf course and ignore this situation altogether?

The only argument I'll only somewhat entertain has less to do with video games specifically, but a culture which glorifies violence as a means to solve problems.

Now, I don't know if I truly believe the US is at all unique in that regard, but it's something worth thinking about at least.

We've kind of created a national identity around our revolutionary roots, and in some circles (the confederate flag waving ones) protecting our "heritage" by any means necessary. In pop culture our heroes have been men like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, mythologizing the expansion west as a sort of gunslinging free for all, where strong white men fight off savage hordes. Of course firearms are an integral part of this story we tell about ourselves, so it's no small wonder that's the weapon of choice when white supremacists decide to terrorize us.

I’m all for mental background checks in order to buy any kind of firearm, if the same applies to people that attempt to hold positions of power.

In some respects that’s already happening. Massive amounts of “opposition research” is done during presidential and senatorial elections, S.C. Nominations and the like.

Fox News isn’t any better:

And we wonder why trump gets away with so much ****? We wonder why his approval remains so high among repubs?

Wow. Now that's how you exploit a tragedy to try to further your agenda. How ****ed is that, connecting a mass shooting targeting Hispanics to an agenda meant to victimize those very same people. **** Fox News man. Lowest of the Low.
