In order to give Udoh's role to Bradley, we'd need another backup center.I see nothing wrong with giving Bradley Udoh's role from last year. Udoh played in 51 games playing 6.3mpg. I'm fine with Bradley doing that. Considering we paid Udoh $3.36 million and Bradley is set to make $1.6, seems like we have a few million we can spend elsewhere.
In order to give Udoh's role to Bradley, we'd need another backup center.
Furthermore, the point of this idea is to use the room exception or BAE, which means it wouldn't affect our cap space.
?That's exactly what I'm saying.
2018-2019 Center rotation: Gobert, Favors, Udoh, Bradley (TOTAL COST - $45 million)
2019-2020 Center rotation: Gobert, ?, Bradley ($27 so far)
If we waived Favors and re-signed him to $13 million or less, we would actually be spending $5 million less on the center position in 2019-20 than we did last season.
No he wouldn't lmfao. How is he going to play over Favors or Udoh? Don't be dumb.he would have been given some chances if he was good.
?
That's not a discount. In no universe is paying $13 million for 12 minutes a game a discount. And he's not signing for that.
For the purpose of CAP, you don't have to spend ANY of it in acquiring a backup C. That is literally the point of this thread.
He definitely should have been able to beat Udoh for minutes if he was good enough for us to plan on giving him the full back up spot next season. No he wouldn't lmfao. How is he going to play over Favors or Udoh? Don't be dumb.
The Jazz liked Udoh because of his defense. The Jazz wanted to develop Bradley in the g league. He was never given an opportunity to play minutes in the NBA and it's by design. He definitely should have been able to beat Udoh for minutes if he was good enough for us to plan on giving him the full back up spot next season.
It would be great if this was monopoly money with no rules attached to it. As it stands, spending $13 million a year on a backup is a terrible idea. I don't care if we can play him as a PF against bad and mediocre teams. I'm serious about becoming a contender, paying Favors that much and having him play the 4 actively prevents that. And the thread didn't prove the point. There are plenty of people on this thread who have said that none of the guys presented could replace what Favors provides.
Favors is not the idea PF next to Gobert. HOWEVER, there are opponents which would allow him to play the position. If we played Denver or Portland, he would play more than 20-25 minutes per game. Against Houston and GS, he's not going to stay on the floor as much.
And once again - if we waive Favors and Favors doesn't accept our fair terms ($13 or less), then bye bye Favors. I don't see a team in the league who is going to give him a long term deal making $13+ other than us. Rebuilding Hawks? Why tie up money long term? Dallas? Maybe, but they have bigger targets.
I don't buy that for a second. Bradley isn't good, the Jazz would be thrilled to play better players rather than worse ones, SO THEY DO.The Jazz liked Udoh because of his defense. I disagree here. I don't think it was by design. At least not the second year. If your 1st round pick is having trouble getting ANY minutes in the NBA in his second season, I don't think that's by design. I think that's by him not being good enough...The Jazz liked Udoh because of his defense. The Jazz wanted to develop Bradley in the g league. It's by design clearly. If the Jazz didn't re-sign Favors, he'd be getting minutes. They didn't have the time to develop him in the regular season with Gobert and Favors immaculate health this year, so the few games they missed they just stuck with the stable vet.I disagree here. The latter part of your post contradicts the former. The Jazz aren't stupid. They knew they were drafting a project who played minutes at their most stacked position.
Dear Jeebus thank you.The latter part of your post contradicts the former.
I'm not talking about him getting the Favors minutes. I'm talking about him getting the Udoh minutes. He's not good enough to take even them. This is not by design. The Jazz signed Udoh for 2 years for a reason. It was to give Bradley time to marinate in the G League. This year whoever they sign as a backup center they will sign with the idea that they will he competing with Bradley.
I think maybe we can use Niang as a small-ball 5 (match-ups permitting).
