Fed Ex Carrier chucks computer monitor

How do we even know that this UPS didn't "borrow" a FedEx van and stage this whole thing? That was my first thought, nice way to take out the competition. Then FedEx, upon checking their delivery schedule realized that this wasn't even one of their employees, has one of their employees dress up as a UPS guy and flip off a camera. I can't wait to see next weeks edition of "Delivery Wars" the new show on History.

Nice violin playing trout.

As usual, trout misses the point.

You cannot, under any circumstances, destroy someone's property because you're sad or upset. There's just no excuse for that. How would you feel if that were your tv? Sure, we can have compassion for the man, if there really was a legit reason for him being upset. But there's absolutely no excuse for what he did. Yes, he should be terminated. It's about personal accountability that everyone today wants to avoid.

You change grades/hit a child in the classroom? You shouldn't teach.
You spit in someone's food? You shouldn't serve/cook.
You destroy packages? You shouldn't deliver.

Being fired might be the best lesson this man could ever receive. Be accountable.

It's worth noting that probably ever single package throughout the delivery process takes a similar fall. Ever seen how they pack delivery trucks? Their goal is volume, not being overly protective. Our packages are flying around those trucks. Flying around planes. Dropping off of shelves.

Well, like I said, we don't know if he was "willfully doing damage to someone else's property" -- that was the point I was trying to make. Is it likely? Ya, it sure seems that way. Even if he did do it on purpose, we don't know why he did it. Not trying to justify his actions, but I usually find that people really aren't that big of douchebags, and it usually takes someone or something to push someone to do douchebaggy things. Not always, but often. Maybe the driver just found out that his wife was cheating on him with his best friend, or that one of his kids was just found cut into pieces in a rapists basement, or that a terrorist/drug cartel was holding his family hostage unless he did bad things to that particular home owner... I bet you wouldn't be calling for his termination if one of those was the case. Just sayin'.

Like I said, we don't know what really happened here.

I guess I'm doubting this came off a home security camera mounted to show who walks by on the sidewalk. Christmas help is picked up by the truckload in front of Home Deport???? Nah.

I'd go with the idea that some dudes, temps, had some friends who had a some worthless outtadate computer stuff and just thought they'd make a wave on You-Tube. Staged Act. I dunno, maybe someone had a boss they didn't like, or some other ax to grind with Fed Ex.

The obvious clue in solving this mystery is the fact that the delivery guy actually lifted the package and chucked it. Too much work. No real life working stiff would put that extra effort into his job, even in a fit of contemptible rage. And this dude looked like he knew he was on cam.

Case solved.

Oh, look, I'm second in line on this general theory. But nope. Too much trouble for UPS to do this. Actually UPS guy contibuted the van and uniform and cam to his bud/some home depot day labor guys, and directed the production. Flaw. . . .. Fed Ex people will run the plate/address info on the video and fire somebody, for sure.

Thanks, *** cheeks. Coming from you, this really means a lot.

Of course. Everything is black and white. I remember when I used to think that way too -- it wasn't all that long ago. But, of course, you're wrong, as usual. (it doesn't help your case that you're arguing with me, since, you know, I'm always right)

Breaking a package = beating a child?
Breaking a package = contaminating someone's food?
Judas, you're dense.

You're probably right. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, learns best when negative consequences are dealt. Thank the Gods you don't have the acumen or skill to ever be anyone's boss.

Be accountable.
Does being accountable for your own stupidity fall into this category? If so, then QFT.

Interestingly enough, here's an update on our package chucking friend:
https://newsfeed.time.com/2011/12/2...f-driver-throwing-fragile-package-goes-viral/

Thornton also said that because of employee privacy rules, he cannot disclose what will happen to the deliverer, noting only that he is “not working with customers” at the moment.

It appears that they didn't just fire his ***, which leads me to believe that there was more to it than what a 30 second video showed. Shocking, I know.

IMO, there's no justifying his behavior. I don't care if his wife just left him or anything like that. That man just cost fed ex a lot of monies and gave fed ex really bad pr.

And yet, here we are talking about FedEx, and the video went viral to 5 million views in 5 days. Honestly, how many of you are thinking, "Hmmm, because that one driver in that one state that one day threw a package over the wall, I'm going to go with UPS instead of FedEx."

Exactly.

I'm of the opinion that it is really hard to get bad publicity.

Are you actually stating you think this publicity has helped Fed Ex?

Also, do you sell K&R insurance?

Stacy Makhnevich thinks you're wrong.

Do you actually think it hurt? Do you really think that FedEx dreaded the idea of getting in front of millions of people to reaffirm the fact that they're one of the biggest and best delivery companies in the world? Again, do you actually think anyone decided NOT to go w/ FedEx this year because of that video? (actually, there are morons in the world that wouldn't -- The Thriller -- so that was probably a stupid question)

No, I've never even heard of K&R.

I actually switched my business to the USPS because we know how much all their employees care about giving great customer service:-)

Reminds me of the joke about the proposed merger between UPS and FedEX. The new company would be called Fed Up.

In the last ten years I've probably shipped 50,000 packages with USPS, and just recently, decided to take my business elsewhere. Their constant rate increases have eaten any type of profit, and they are coming faster than ever. The USPS can eat the corn.

I bet plenty of people decided not to go with FedEx because of that video. You obviously aren't one of them, but I'm sure some old lady somewhere either heard about this video from someone or saw it herself, and decided not to use FedEx.

I think probably the bigger issue though, is probably a whole lot of people said, "I knew it was those ******** who broke my item a few years ago. They assured me it wasn't them and that I should have bought the insurance. Now I know and I won't be using them anymore."

I don't know about you guys but when I order something of size and it's expensive, I usually just check "no" for insurance.

Like Salty said a couple posts up, you can bet some people saw this or read about this incident and decided not to use FedEx going forward. Yet, I can say with the utmost confidence that I believe no one saw this and said, "Hey, I totally forgot about FedEx. I'm going to start using them" or "Hey, what great customer service, I'm going to start using FedEx." In no way does this help FedEx. People already know they're out there and can use them if they want. Now though, people may see this video and decide to go elsewhere.

I doubt it has any effect at all. What I see is an overworked and angry seasonal employee. And FedEx, UPS and the USPS all have a ton of those. What I might consider is going to a brick and mortar store vs. buying on-line. Besides, if you don't have shipping insurance, most credit card issuers give you limited protection. Bottom line is the manufacturer and shipper have 100% liability until the package is delivered to your door and you sign for it.

When I was in my twenties, I worked for Conway freight for a while in SLC, moving freight from truck to truck with a forklift. At the end of every shift, we had to write up our breakages. If we didn't break very much, they figured we weren't working fast enough. True story.
