Following Potential 2020 draftees

A funny player for me looking back last bunch of years has always been Dwight Powell from Stanford, who's turned out to be a pretty good NBA player and earned himself a nice deal playing for the Mavs.

If you really look back, Powell was a player who was pretty damn consistent at Stanford, but got basically no publicity/hype whatsoever, projected 2nd rd guy.

He's one of the guys where I felt like in that draft year, people didnt like to talk about him, he was older and boring, perceived as low upside. I think it was clear then that he was underrated, and certainly now with the benefit of hindsight we can see a long list of inferior players who were drafted over him.


The reason I bring it up is; Who's this years Dwight Powell? Could it be the previously mentioned Petrusev?

Also... Just trade up for RJ Hampton or Theo Maledon if you're gonna trade up for a guard like that..... It's nice to have the full rookie deal to figure things out..

We could just take the best player and hope to groom him. However, we already have the following guys we are trying to groom:

PG JWF
PG/SG Tucker
SG/SF Oni
SF/PF Brantley
PF Morgan
C Bradley

All those guys show promise. Instead of adding another to that mix, go get a guy with a proven NBA skill that helps us now as we age.

Another massive part of a Ntilikina trade - he is close with both Rudy (France) and Donovan (draft class). Our lockerroom is extremely strong, and I think Ntilikina could come in and fit nicely on and off the court.

Watching Utah in the playoffs I cant help but think how bad they screwed up in the 2nd rd of some of the recent drafts, letting players like Shake Milton and Monte Morris slip thru their grasps.
 
I truly hate how popular it's become to take shots at James Wiseman's game/skillset/whatever they can cling onto... It's reminiscent of Andre Drummond at UConn tbh.

There's no finer example of how warped this whole 'draft watching' thing has become then this commonplace negativity around Wiseman this year.....


(**EDIT; or actually I can't even say that, because I was tuned into LaMelo's NBL games on twitch and what was being spammed by thousands of kids in that chat was hands down the most warped example I can think of.... but still, the DISTORTION runs rampant, my point remains)

It's unfounded, and a similar phenomena to letting a class full of 2nd graders play the game telephone.

I think the rap on him is more because it is painfully obvious how much less important bigs are to a teams success than scoring wings. And he's no Rudy, Embiid, etc .... so is he really worth taking a gamble on that early?
 
go back to the old-school saying you can't teach height. Get the guy with the highest physical upside and teach him basketball. It's much easier to teach basketball than to teach a handicapped player to grow taller, run faster, jump higher, etc.

If this is your plan, the move is to sign Khalil Whitney from the UDFA pool the night of the draft.



6'7" wing with an NBA frame and he's got like a 42" vertical and 7footwingspan... 19 years old..
 
As for Utah trying to select the best raw athletes worthy of the first round with pick 23? If they feel like they can get Jahimus Ramsey in positions to win and to coexist with D. Mitchell, that would be a very fun pairing.

Tyler Bey from Colorado at 6'7" but really explosive and with a great nose for the ball, he could really provide the Jazz with a very different look and massive shot of energy... He's only 6'7" but figures to be a bit of an enforcer vs smallball looks and is an elite rebounder for his size.

Robert Woodard III deserves mention. He's heavy/strong and still can jump real high.

Also I wouldnt do this(Cuz I'd take Robert Woodard) but Cassius Stanley out of Duke is in the mid-40's vertical leap range, and he's really acrobatic and makes for a monstrous lob target, and has been that for many many years, I wouldnt take him at #23 because his offense is kinda gimmicky and hes got very average length, but still I dont think it'd be worse than lets say taking Grayson Allen #23..

but i mean... rudy was no rudy going into the draft... right?

I really hate this whole downplaying of the C's that goes on, it's sensationalized for a few reasons, one of them is scarcity of healthy bigs right now.....

When I watch one of the best teams in the NBA, The Clippers, I see Ivica Zubac out there putting up big stats in few minutes all the time..

I thought Zubac was a lotto talent and he fell to the 2nd rd.. When I watch him these days though, he still looks like a lotto talent to me... /shrug

If Small-ball is the new thing, small-ball breaking units are gonna be the next new thing.. They already exist. The idea that Wiseman is some sort of old model machine, like a Jahlil Okafor type of deal, trying to exist in a fast new world is just something I'm gonna have to see to believe.

Sure, you can get functional but never ever have the chance to be great bigs all the time. A big in a good situation will be fine, but will never lead a team to where they want to be. You have a wing with Rudy's measurable's he's going top 5 every time but Rudy went late 20's. Absolute best case he is a borderline all star. Absolute best case for a wing is he's a HOF multiple championship guy. It's like gambling, you are trying to hit the jackpot. You aren't trying to hit the 10x payout,. You want the 100x payout. Wiseman surrounded by a nice team where he can fill a role would be amazing. But banking on Wiseman to be the man, to carry the team, is a bet you will lose 99.99999% of the time.

This sounds like poorly thought out drunken fan logic to me... I think your quite clearly just pulling arbitrary numbers out of your *** and throwing around "absolute" for, i guess, dramatic effect... if you knew anything in this thread to an absolute point, you'd surely be making correct predictions here nonstop which isnt the case.
