Gonzaga vs. BYU Game Thread

I really do hope his lack of defensive...enthusiasm is a strategic decision and not a philosophical one. I'd be hard pressed to put him on the floor in the NBA given the effort he puts on that end.

It's called horse sense.

OK, it's a fair point, and especially relevant in the NBA even more critical in the playoffs.

I'm kinda short at 5'11, the runt of my basketball family. What I learned to do was shoot, and do a high enough percentage beyond the three-point arc when I do one on one with my high school stud nephew, I can win just giving him his layups. One dribble in and shoot. Saves energy.

Well it's been a few years since I did that. But that's the idea.

My Bulldogs went all Sloanfeld on St. Johns tonight. Time to beat another sorry *** team in BYU. I'm not big into college ball, but it's going to be sweet having bragging rights over crapratcho like a Cameron Wake sack on Mark Sanchez.

As usual Sloanfeld is wrong. BYU just took the Zags to school.

*Gonzaga is going to be scary good next year though. That is a young talented team.

Big win for BYU and probably a huge relief for Cougar fans. IMO Jimmer is going to go down as the best basketball player in BYU history. You don't want your all-time best player coming and going without a single Sweet 16 appearance.

Jimmer's "defense" is by design of Dave Rose. He knows he needs jimmer on the floor as often as possible so by giving him the smallest defensive assignment he's able to go 40 and look fresh for every single minute. Not to mention at times the zone D that BYU runs is downright stifling! Even with jimmer covering about 9 square feet they can make it tough for their opponents to create something. Clearly this team at this point in the tourney will live or die by the jumper, but if they are hitting a solid percentage of their shots and playing great team D like tonight they could get into the final four with Pitt out now

Nice job by the bench bozos coming in after Hartsock and Abouo got in early foul trouble. Not much stats from them, but BYU just needs Anderson especially to put his long *** arms in the air and be tall and he did a solid job of that tonight.

And if the Rogers/Abouo/Emery/Collinsworth clique will continue to attack the rim every once in a while, I like BYU's chances going forward. Those guys don't need to just be three point shooters. Lanes are wide open because of the attention given to Jimmer and they all are capable of taking to the hole as they showed at times tonight. Collinsworth can eat any 4 off the bounce in college; he should just attack that every time. Very very encouraging game.

+1.

Considering BYU's lack of size, and the way in which they utilize Jimmer on the defensive end, it's pretty amazing how well they D up. That's an extremely well coached basketball team.

I know crap about college ball. For once I was wrong, but I could care less.

Now go back to your little fantasy world of the Deron/Jefferson experiment being way more successful than the Deron/Boozer era. Moron.
