Hendricks ~ Rodman?

Hendricks has the potential to be pretty good. Right now, his mind is keeping him from being very good. I like what was said that he plays with different intensity levels. IF he could get consistent he could be very good. He will never be Rodman. He will never be durant. I like the comp of JJJ but hot sure he could score that well yet. Right now I am hoping he gets the Jaden MCDaniels level.

I still think the most likely comp is Robert Covington with a bit more rim protection.

I’m not sure the next Rodman would get a chance to be great in this era. Non shooting forwards are tough. Not that he wouldn’t make it as a player but Dray might be the closest thing we see to Rodman from an all star type player. For Dray to be full Dray he needed Steph and Klay. Still would be awesome but more limited on offense in ways that would take him down a notch or two.

J. Jackson is lumbersome and a true center. His is not fast.
Dennis Rodman was positionally small, a rebounding specialist, and did all the dirty work
Favors was a true PF, low post player with no shot outside of 18 feet. Strength and size were his best attributes.
Jeremy Evans was a slim bean pogo stick who coulnd't shoot

Half of these guys don't even play Tay Hey's position let alone share common body types or strengths!

Hendricks is a tall, long 3&D player. He shares a flare for blocking shots a la Myles Turner but he is not a center. He plays more like a SF so players that come to mind are more like Cam Johnson with more defensive focus. Maybe a touch more like Robert Horry due to the defensive mindset but it looks like he can become a capable shooter. HH - Jaden McDaniels is a fair comp too.

I was trying to think of an All-Star type comp but yeah... Imagine Vando was a better rebounder and much better defender.

For Tay Henny if it works out he is some sort of mix of McDaniels, RoCo, PJ Washington or if he trends more towards being a big and not a wing/big maybe a more dynamic Maxi Kleber (when he was healthy and shooting well).

If he adds more to his game he might break out of those role player types but I am not sure that is where I would focus if I was him or the Jazz.

And I honestly don't get the worry from the fanbase and some of the beat writers about Taylor. He was 12/8 with 2.5 stocks per 36 last year while having very little understanding of where to be last year. He was solid in many defensive situations and 38% from 3. I get he is raw but even as raw as he really isn't negative. Think they just need to let him play through some stuff and live with the bumps.

Its true but its somewhat applicable here lol. Even down to the sometimes dumbass things Taylor will do that Jaden still does. Homie you got 2 fouls in the 1st quarter don't pick up the 3rd reaching 60 feet from the hoop at the start of the second quarter.

I think one of the things that kinda works against Taylor here is his ideal position is where Lauri's is. Not that they are the same player and you can play multiple guys like that obviously... it might just not be ideal for Taylor personally.

I don't see it as a great comparison because almost all of Jaden's value is as perimeter on ball defender, and I don't see Hendricks as that type of defender at all. It doesn't mean Hendricks is/will be a bad defender, just different. He's probably not going to be picking up PG's full court and navigating screens like Jaden. Again, I don't think Hendricks is slow or anything....just a way different kind of athlete and way different kind of defender.

Where I do see the comparison is that they probably will never be guys that dribble/make decisions on offense. Both very basic and rudimentary, although I'd say you'd hope TH's shooting becomes a lot better. IDK....always felt odd to compare players on the smallest parts of their game.

I think Covington is a more reasonable comparison who was a much different type of defender than Jaden. Though I think the "RoCo worst case scenario" praise was a little ridiculous for TH before the draft.

I think the realistic ceiling for Taylor is a RoCo+ type. The plus would be as a better one-on-one defender and a consistent volume three point shooter. Maybe applies more rim pressure as he is bigger. He may not ever be that disruptive as RoCo was a deflections god.
