I basically made this exact same thread approximately 5 years ago when I was having problems finding a job while in law school. Things do get better even though they are depressing right now.

The best advice I can give having gone through this experience is to be totally openminded about the opportunities that present themselves even if they're not the opportunities that you wanted. My law school roommate really wanted to live in Charlotte after graduation and didn't get a job there, eventually moving to Milwaukee. Blessing in disguise as the Charlotte legal community promptly imploded and everyone we knew who lives there got laid off. I had no intentions of going to Northern California but my first choice law firm in Phoenix has since revealed itself to be something of a cesspool that I would not have survived in. The point of this is that sometimes the options that are handed to you are better than the ones you would have chosen for yourself.

Life will never be perfect but all indications are that you have some nice support structure and family money. This too shall pass and you're in a better position to ride it out than many of your peers. Be thankful for what you have and eagerly accept the next thing that you get.

Plan ahead. While growing up indoctrinate him to believe that basketball is the end all, be all of existence. Put a basketball in his crib, give him b-ball bed sheets, b-ball pajamas, put him to bed at night watching b-ball videos. Hell, paint your wife's boobs to look like a b-balls so that's what he sees when breast feeding. Surround him with b-ball sights, sounds, smells and taste. If the god's are smiling upon you he'll be 6'5" like his daddy. And most importantly name him Hammer. That way when he is drafted into the NBA he'll be one hell of a badass.

Then again, if he ends up short and devoid of all athletic ability he could get a Vegas act as the white version of MC Hammer.

because Kicky gave you such nice advice, and because in a few months that's what he'll be doing, I'd suggest that his "in utero" name be Kicky!

once he's born, well, that might not be such a great choice. How about Daniel? I think Daniel Clinton McKell sounds pretty good.

Oh and please, for the love of all that is holy, stay away from creative name spellings. It just needlessly complicates things and guarantees that the kid will spend the rest of their life saying "no that is with a Y...no at the end....I know it sounds like an E but it is a Y....no spell it like this....no I said at the end". This happens more in girl's names I think, but I have a friend who change her name legally for this reason, but kept it the same name (her name is Emily, but her parents, for whatever reason, thought it was cute to spell it Emeley...I guess they thought "E"s are feminine). It is still the same name, but she normalized the spelling because she got tired of the rigamarole. Sure it looks nifty on the papers you fill out for elementary school, but gets really old the 1000th time the "kid" has to re-spell it for somoene over the phone or in a store or whatever.

neighbors of ours named their daughter Emily but spell it EMILE - now that she's in school, it often gets mispronounced as E-MILE. It's good advice to avoid overly creative spellings.
