What's new

Hood traded to Cleveland for Crowder; Johnson to Sacramento

First prediction... Mirotic was a rental. He will be expendable when Boogie comes back. Burks plus a second for Mirotic in the summer?

Next, DL is a class act. Nuff said.

I kind of want the Jazz to trade me so that DL can go on about how great I am. Feel like it would be a big boost to my confidence.

the Burks detail is mostly unimportant. The takeaway is that they'll need to cut money hard and fast.... and that there aint no way they're paying Boogie and Mirotic.
Mirotic expires. Boogie won’t return to full health immediately. They won’t be near the LT.

Mirotic's option was picked up. He's paid through the end of next year; and, as of today, NOLA is on-the-hook for the full amount. Boogie expires. And all reports indicate that re-signing him is a top priority.

I was talking about next year. They’re not near LT resigning Boogie.

You're alleging that if they re-sign Boogie, have Mirotic and AD on the books, plus Holiday, plus Hill and all their other crap, that they aren't going to have money problems?

Two situations to watch... Denver and NO. Denver is staring down the barrel of a $40M plus LT bill next year. They have assets to move money and chose not to do it at the deadline... It will only get harder now. On draft night I could see us doing a deal including our unguranteed guys for Wilson Chandler and their pick. Chandler has struggled, but I think as a bench scorer he could come in and be really good for us. Would save them almost $50M. Part of this depends on what they do with Will Barton.

The other situation in NO... same deal, but we could get Niko with just the unguaranteed guys. We could start him or use him off the bench. We maintain flexibility for 2019 and get some of the offensive production off the bench that we need and will miss without Hood.

I assume Crowder starts for us next year at the four. Jerebko has been good in our system... I think Crowder would be better. Bringing the more offensively inclined PF option off the bench with our other guys that struggle to create would be gold.

In FA this year look for us to do the same thing we did this year. Buy low on 2 year guys and get the option on the second year. Use the MLE on guys like Seth Curry, Joe Harris, Mario Hezonja, Pat Connaughton and pay a little more for the flexibility. Or if guys like KCP, Will Barton, Tyreke Evans, Maybe Slow Mo Anderson become available for the full MLE for 4 years go ahead and do that. We end up having 30-50M in space depending on what we do with Ricky, Dante, and our MLE.

I like what the trade did for our flexibility if Crowder becomes a contributor.

and, btw, I know that if they resign Boogie, they won't be in the same money pit. Because if Boogie is resigned, then he no longer plays for them. Right?

Oh yes they are... will be about $10M into it at least after filling out their roster with minimum deals... Will cost them $15 - 20M.

I believe that is how it works, but we might look into playing guys that we don't have under contract... big potential loophole we could exploit.

I've heard about Crowder coming to camp this year out of shape. Somewhat understandable in the circumstances(his mother passed away during the summer). If he's still out of shape the Jazz should do what BKN did with Okafor - sideline him and work on his general fitness and conditioning until it's up to par and then ease him back into play. The timing for this is a bit tricky though since the players have 1 week rest around the all star break.
