I was very hopeful in the beginning of the year that we could reach to at least conference finals. But things went unexpectedly bad. Anyway i wonder , considering the suffering of teams like Lakers and spurs this year, how far we would go if we entered playoffs instead of memphis from 8th spot and kept deron ? I actually think we could make it to the finals and beaten by miami
There are 23 votes in this poll and not a single one for the option that the creator of the poll believed would have happened. Strange.

If Utah had retained BOTH Sloan and Deron, the Jazz probably would've been the 7th or 8th seed and bounced in the first-round by either San Antonio or LA. Just a week before the Bulls game - the Jazz had that huge win in Denver in which the entire team rallied after the JR Smith incident and Deron&Al began to show signs of chemistry. I think it's likely Utah would've played just well enough to get in. Regardless of the other teams in the west however, the formula the Jazz were using just wasn't good enough to get them past the first-round.

Even when Utah was winning, the burden placed on Deron was far too heavy and by January you could see he was wearing down. They relied on him to orchestrate the offense and create shots for others as well as carry the scoring load - and because the team wasn't talented enough to blow most teams out - all those crunchtime minutes began to add up. Deron's a great, great PG - but relying on him to play a Derrick Rose-role is too much for him.

This is cute to me. The burden is what he wants it to be. Hell, he wanted a max contract. Play like a max player then. Take on that burden you've invited. Play better defense. Lead by example. Not by whining at the refs and teammates. Cut down on your turnovers. Make those around you as good if not better than they are. But he rarely or inconsistently did such.

A lot of fans seem to want to use the first thirty games or so of this last season as a baseline, saying that things somehow and unexpectedly went sour after that. Seems to me that the Jazz overachieved in Nov/Dec/Jan and that they simply regressed towards their true identity: A big pile of "meh".

I agree. The comeback wins on the road were deceptive. Sure, Utah showed a lot of heart in those games, but part of it was getting their *** kicked out of the gate, and then turning it on after the other team began coasting.

I cannot vote.
The only option I could vote for is to not make the playoffs, just like a few others have stated already.

If we would have made the playoffs (I'm of the opinion that they would not have) then I think they would have been beat up by the Spurs. We just don't have the mind set yet with the youth on this team to be able to pull off what the Griz did. They have had years together to be ready for that series. The Jazz just had to many new faces this year even before Deron was traded.

As much as I loved DWill I kinda agree and hope the new CBA will force players & teams to correct this. There can only be room (cap) enough for 1max player and if you want and ask for that then you better be able to carry, have the drive and keep improving yourself and the team through a season.
If you can't or don't then your not a true max player and you should be expected to be paid like whatever type player your play dictates.

Lets be clear here: The Jazz team we had with Deron sucked this season. I don't think we were playoff bound either way.

the thing is, i dont really think we would be such an amazing team if deron stayed, but lets accept that he plays really good in playoffs, and this year i dont really see any very good team. Dallas is 2-0 against lakers but they r really a fragile team. memphis, oklahoma are good teams but i dont think their roster is better than ours. just they have a better team chemistry. What i feel sorry is, probably miami which everyone criticized sooo badly in the regular season, will win the championship, and there is no team to compete with them. i dont think any team except lakers is better than us in the west. if we win lottery this year and get irving, we can be a contender in 2-3 yrs i believe

Deron is a great player to have when things are going well. When he's winning, he's a beast. But when the going gets tough, he's not the guy that's gonna pull you out of it.

This is a pretty good assessment.

thats the only question i have about deron. He is better than Rose as a point guard but i have question marks about deron as a leader. He is just blaming all everyone else but not himself. he just gets frustrated when he lose instead of trying harder to win next time
