What's new

It's Over - Ne Deal for Gtime - RFA time

I have burks and favors.... kanter is next.

(And I have boozer, millsap, and until recently a kris humphries jersey lol)

Sadly I don't have any current jerseys. Sap and Brewer were the last ones I owned.

Time for Burke, Burks, and Kanter.

This type of thing will definitely never happen again:

@sluhm: Reason #865 Utah loved Stockton: Extension time, goes to Larry Miller, both write number on piece of paper, number is identical, done deal.

Favorite player of all time and it is not even close. Just the ruthlesness on the court, the quiet home life, none of that drama...

Kind of funny what the RealGMers are saying about Hayward/Jazz not agreeing on extension. They kind of put the Jazzfanz homerism of Hayward into perspective. Best quote was, "on what planet does a 12ppg player think he's worth 10M/year?" https://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1280921 Props to Lattimer for starting that thread on Realgm.

And this is so different than what people have been saying here because...

Maybe read a post or two before you bless us with your wisdom.

My entire post was quoting other people. How was I blessing anyone with my wisdom? Nice pokemon pic bro.

That's the stupid statement I was referring to, obviously. And the picture is not from Pokemon. It's from a cartoon named Invader Zim.

*The biggest negative is that a motivated Hayward in a contract year could hurt the tank late in the season.
Totally disagree with this. If he isn't going to play every game to win we don't want him either way. I never saw a difference when Stockton was playing for a contract. That's the kind of guy I want on this team and the culture I hope the Jazz can create. I'm not butt hurt like some people are trying to imply. I just have more information than I used to have about who Hayward is, and I don't like it.

I wanted to get the thoughts of those not emotionally invested in this team. It seems that nobody thinks he is worth what he thinks he's worth.

You got rid of the Humphries jersey? You should've kept it for entertainment value. Like the guy wearing a Donyell Marshall jersey at ESA on Tuesday during the ticket giveaway. That gave my brother and I good laugh while we were waiting in line.

Someone will need to listen and give a recap:

David Locke ‏@Lockedonsports 16m

Dennis Lindsey and Gordon Hayward will both address the media today at shoot around tune to @1280sports. Only station with the Jazz

Gave it to a friend as a gag gift/b-day present.
He wore it to the club that very night lol

player efficiency rating

Let's say Hayward continues growing from his current 16.8 PER to the 18-19 range and caps at a reasonable 45-60 best player range. Here's equivalent player

43 Manu Ginobili 19.0 $7,500,000 $7,500,000 $7,000,000
44 Tyson Chandler 18.9 $14,100,538 $14,100,538 $14,598,888
45 Robin Lopez 18.9 $5,904,261 $5,904,261 $6,124,728
46 Jose Calderon 18.8 $6,791,570 $6,791,570 $7,097,191 $7,402,812 $7,708,427
47 Kemba Walker 18.8 *ROOKIE SCALE - EXEMPTED FROM DISCUSSION*
48 Larry Sanders 18.7 $11,000,000 $11,000,000 $11,000,000 $11,000,000 (Extended years starts 2014-2015)
49 Tiago Splitter 18.7 $10,000,000 $10,000,000 $9,250,000 $8,500,000 $8,250,000
50 Samuel Dalembert 18.6 $3,700,748 $3,700,748 $3,867,282
51 Kenneth Faried 18.5 *ROOKIE SCALE - EXEMPTED FROM DISCUSSION*
52 Jordan Hill 18.5 $3,563,600 $3,563,600
53 Chris Johnson Who?
54 Mike Conley 18.3 $8,200,001 $8,200,001 $8,894,216 $9,588,426
55 Ersan Ilyasova 18.3 $7,900,000 $7,900,000 $7,900,000 $7,900,000 $8,400,000
56 John Henson 18.2 *ROOKIE SCALE - EXEMPTED FROM DISCUSSION*
57 Thaddeus Young 18.2 $8,850,000 $8,850,000 $9,410,870 $9,971,739
58 Ryan Anderson 18.1 $8,308,500 $8,308,500 $8,491,500 $8,500,000
59 Tyreke Evans 18.1 $10,300,000 $10,300,000 $10,763,500 $11,227,000 $11,690,500
60 Joakim Noah 18.1 $11,100,000 $11,100,000 $12,200,000 $13,400,000
61 Rajon Rondo 18.1 $11,954,545 $11,954,545 $12,909,091
62 Shawn Marion 18.0 $9,316,796 $9,316,796

Taking out the bold because they don't seem good comparisons to Hayward by PER, the average contract is $9,009,667.*

*Using the first year of Sander's extension instead of the last year of his rookie scale.

**Currently working on 19.1-21.0 PER pay range.

Just missed it too, but here are some twitter feeds:

Jody Genessy ‏@DJJazzyJody 14m
Lindsey reminded reporters that Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker didn't sign extensions at one point with Spurs and that eventually worked out.

David Locke ‏@Lockedonsports 11m
Clear Jazz organization view of Gordon Hayward is unchanged. Lindsey "imagine him retiring as a Jazz player"

Jody Genessy ‏@DJJazzyJody 11m
Lindsey: "We're honored to have Gordon part of the organization."

David Locke ‏@Lockedonsports 10m
Numerous references from Lindsey about Gordon 's character, competitiveness and strong family upbringing. Organization very high on Hayward

Jody Genessy ‏@DJJazzyJody 3m
Hayward: "I love being in Utah. I wish it could have happened." He wants it to happen next summer.

Boy, it must be kinda like playing poker and keeping a straight face when your heart is saying something else completely ... LOL...

What's funny about playing for the Jazz is that a number of players came here and like SLC. And I can think of a few crappier places than SLC that have NBA teams. Sure - most guys would rather play for Miami, NY or an L.A. team, but if I was a player, I'd much rather live in SLC than Cleveland or Detroit.

We signed Favors to an extension and that's huge. Overpaying Heyward would be stupid. For $10,000,000 a year I'm sure we could sign someone comparable. It's not the end of the world. Plus he's restricted.

Player, PER, $$

21 Brandan Wright 21.0 Outlier
22 Al Jefferson 20.9 $13,500,000
23 John Wall 20.8 Max
24 JaVale McGee 20.7 $10,750,000
25 LaMarcus Aldridge 20.4 $14,628,000
26 Deron Williams 20.3 Max
27 DeMarcus Cousins 20.2 Max
28 Nikola Pekovic 20.2 $12,100,000
29 David West 20.1 $12,000,000
30 Chris Bosh 20.0 Max
31 Jeremy Evans Outlier
32 Al Horford 19.9 $12,000,000
33 Paul Millsap 19.8 $9,500,000
34 Dirk Nowitzki 19.8 Max
35 J.J. Hickson 19.7 How does this guy keep signing for pennies?
36 Marc Gasol 19.5 Max
37 Greg Monroe 19.5 Will be RFA
38 Dwight Howard 19.4 Max
39 Serge Ibaka 19.4 $12,350,000
40 Kevin Garnett 19.2 $12,443,735
41 David Lee 19.2 $13,878,000
42 Paul Pierce 19.1 $15,333,334

That's pretty damn good company to be in. The way I see it, Hayward's ceiling is at best the floor of this category, which is a $10mm-$12mm player. If he proves to be a $12mm player then the Jazz did not lose much making him prove he's worth it.
