Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

What if Danny says to hell with it. The Jazz are keeping Donovan and the current roster and are trying to win?
Kind of late to do that. This current roster is borderline playoffs, if that. I don't see us randomly pulling out a winning roster this deep into FA. By winning I mean being good enough to be dangerous come playoff time.

Is it possible for the Jazz to not take matching salary back? If a third team were involved could the Jazz just take the players they want or do the Jazz have to take matching salary back?

The 3rd team would have to have cap space to take other salary in and would want to be compensated. We are going to become the team who takes salary and is compensated not the other way around.

I just brought this up in the other thread and I’ll throw it out here too.

We should be try to take Westbrook back in the same Knicks deal. It would allow us to take back more total salary because we are sending a higher total out. We can add Beverley and Bogey in the deal and take Westbrook back. That doesn’t work on it’s own but in a 3-way it does. Lakers save almost 15M so they’d definitely be more likely to give us their 27/29 1sts and a 28 pick swap.

Also, maybe the Lakers want Conley instead of Beverley which is fine. Miami is interested in Beverley and I’m sure we could grab either their 2027 or 2029 1st if we took Robinson’s salary back.

We have to watch the tax a little… saving them 5-10M while taking the huge headache off their hand and giving them a few rotation players should be worth those picks. Those picks are actually likely better than the Knicks picks and in 5-7 years tbh.

Bogey/Bev/JC and we will do a NAW for THT if it helps em a little.

But does that put the Jazz back in the tax?

Whatever Westbrook gives up in the buyout is subtracted from his cap hit.

We’d still be under the tax with this deal by a hair pre-buyout.

Then you rehab Robinson and spin him to the Kings for more draft compensation.
