Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

If Lakers are trying to give away Westbrook wouldn't the Knicks be better off buying low on Westbrook and pairing him with Brunson? And keep more of their players and picks?

Kind of late to do that. This current roster is borderline playoffs, if that. I don't see us randomly pulling out a winning roster this deep into FA. By winning I mean being good enough to be dangerous come playoff time.
At this point we would be throwing Donovan out there as SF. . .

Also, maybe the Lakers want Conley instead of Beverley which is fine. Miami is interested in Beverley and I’m sure we could grab either their 2027 or 2029 1st if we took Robinson’s salary back.
Beverley, Beasley and Vanderbilt can’t be combined with other players in a trade for two months. They can be traded by themselves, or with assets attached, but you can’t combine their salary with someone else’s to get a higher cost player back.

Then you rehab Robinson and spin him to the Kings for more draft compensation.
Robinson’s contract is SO bad though. I think the only way you trade for him is you secretly want him and convince Miami to attach an asset to unload it. Unless you love the guy and REALLY want him, about $20 million per year is a huge lift for the next 4 seasons.

The trade can become official on August 30th. Still well before the season starts.
