Jazz Offseason Plan

I like Delon Right, but think assets should be spent on a quality stretch 4, 5... Finding 2 guards that cant shoot isn't too difficult.
He plays both guard spots and can play as a wing too... so he’s really a 1-3 for us. We don’t really spend an asset in the deal imo... Favs deal is not great and 30 for 39 is not a huge difference.

The main point of that deal is to get off the Favors contract, and have the full MLE. I'm still not clear on how much of Favors contract we need to offload to get to the full MLE though?
If we keep Conley we don’t have full MLE. If we let Conley walk we’d need to clear additional salary... JC or Bojan to get enough room under the hard cap to use the full MLE.

Right, I understand about Conley, but what I'm confused about is how much more salary, in addition to Conley do we need to clear. JC or Bojan, so $13-19MM. Is that right? Sounds like a lot and not worth opening up the full MLE. What is the difference between the Full MLE and Tax MLE?
I really appreciate your help with these questions.

You're right I don't understand Favors contract. My mistake for thinking of Favors as an asset. lol

If Conley walks I think you'd need to trade Favs either into someone's space outright... or you do a deal like I outlined above and trade Bojan or JC for a player making 3-4M less per year. So you'd be getting something back that might be as good but different... or it might not be as good. You have to decide if Bojan, Favs is as valuable as Wright, whatever piece you get for Bojan, and MLE makes you more versatile and better overall.

The other thing I like about Wright is he is long and disruptive. He is better equipped to guard the smaller scoring guards that give us trouble. Royce is good against bigger wings but struggles against slippery guys. Not sure Wright would do a credible job on a guy like PG but he's big enough to give it a shot. If you want to run a switchy scheme you need guys like Wright.

As of today, I think the best, first, realistic deal out there is something around

Conley and Favors
for
Kuzma, Harrell, Gasol, at least one 1st

We then look to trade Harrell's expiring for somebody like:

Satoransky
Larry Nance Jr
Cedi Osman
Taurean Prince
Dwight Powell
Max Kleber
Jeremy Lamb
Kyle Anderson
Dario Saric
Derrick Jones
Aaron Baynes
Delon Wright
Into Somebody's Cap Space and we get a minor draft pick (Charlotte, Miami)

I don't think the Lakers can take someone that has been signed and traded and stay under the hard cap. They want to keep Caruso and THT (who they wouldn't put in the Lowry deal). I think they are out of firsts for a while (with swaps) because of the AD deal.

Could be wrong and it will be close but I think they will need about 12-15M to keep THT and Caruso... then they need to fill out the rest of the roster.

Conley's options are fairly limited imo unless he wants to go to a NY or Miami.

I'm not a fan of Conley going to the Lakers

Another guy I'd revisit is Thad Young. Was basically mocked last year for suggesting we give expirings and seconds to go get him and use him as a 4/5. They use him that exact way this year and he becomes a great roll guy and averages 18/9/6 assists per 36.

Think about the clippers switching or trapping the picks and now you have a guy that can actually do something with the ball... similar to what draymond did.

I doubt he's available now but if you wanted to trade Bojan for him you might get it done.

We need that piece that allows us to pivot styles when need be.... these are the type of guys we should look at.

OK, I can see why you can't be specific because it depends on what the cap is set to. I used Google to get an idea and it looks like last year's full MLE was $9.25MM vs Tax MLE was $5.7MM.

I missed that question... yeah its basically 3 years and $6M per year vs. 4 years and 10M per year. The big difference is we can use the taxpayer MLE and still go over the hard cap. Operating under the hard cap will get pretty hard for us to do.
