I also noticed we have a $5MM and $3.5MM trade exception for the Tony Bradley and Ed Davis Trades last year. I'm not sure if that could net us anything. I'm guessing not.
Let's play with the numbers a bit. Lets just say the "hard cap apron" is $145.I don't think the Lakers can take someone that has been signed and traded and stay under the hard cap. They want to keep Caruso and THT (who they wouldn't put in the Lowry deal). I think they are out of firsts for a while (with swaps) because of the AD deal.
Could be wrong and it will be close but I think they will need about 12-15M to keep THT and Caruso... then they need to fill out the rest of the roster.
Conley's options are fairly limited imo unless he wants to go to a NY or Miami.
I mean its close but as soon as they execute the sign and trade with us the teams after THT will increase their offers because they know Lakers will have a limit.Let's play with the numbers a bit. Lets just say the "hard cap apron" is $145.
Total Lakers Guaranteed - $95
LeBron and AD - $76.5
KCP - $13
Deng - $5 (stretched)
Re-signed guys - $15
Let's say THT and Caruso take up $15 total
That's 5 guys taking up $110
Let's just say they traded Kuzma ($13), Harrell ($9.7) and Gasol ($2.7) - TOTAL $25.5
for
Conley ($15?) and Favors ($9.7) - TOTAL $24.7
That's almost the same amount of money. Of course Conley could take a little less or a little more.
TOTAL for Lakers after the trade is 7 guys at $134.
So the Lakers wouldn't have the MLE, but they could sign 7 minimum contract players and stay under the $145.
Or Harrell exercises his player option which saves LA almost $10 million.
Or the Lakers could look to trade Caldwell-Pope.
How much is it worth it to them to get Conley? Seems that they would be so much better with Conley than Kuzma, Gasol, Harrell, and any MLE player.
Or we could not include Favors...
It's a weird dynamic for them for sure. I just don't see Schroder staying at all. He turned down a 4 year extension already. And then he kind of bombed in the playoffs. I guess they could sign-and-trade him somewhere which would all but kill the Conley dream.I mean its close but as soon as they execute the sign and trade with us the teams after THT will increase their offers because they know Lakers will have a limit.
The alternative for them is bringing back Shroeder and not ****ing around with the hard cap... using mini-mle and pivoting later with Kuzma if need be.
They might prefer the hard cap route so that Lebron doesn't want them to spend into oblivion. Harrell can likely be spun into someone's cap with some assets... they could get some late seconds to take the minimum from 1.7 to 900k for a couple guys. I think if they bring Conley in then you keep Gasol but that's not like a deal breaker... would just be weird.
I think its doable... I wonder if Schroder sees his market and is like "well.... actually can we talk again". I thought it was pretty dumb for him to pass up that money. It's a weird dynamic for them for sure. I just don't see Schroder staying at all. He turned down a 4 year extension already. And then he kind of bombed in the playoffs. I guess they could sign-and-trade him somewhere which would all but kill the Conley dream.
I just think in all of the scenarios, getting Conley on that roster is better than Schroder, Kuzma, Harrell, and any of their very small contract guys. It's probably wishful thinking to include Favors in the deal.
A perfect world for LA is Harrell using his player option then LA trading us Kuzma and draft picks for Conley. If we could get some lightly protected 2025 1st, could be a golden trade chip down the road.
He's the guy one of these bottom feeders should go for. He was coming back from Covid so not sure how he was supposed to look in the playoffs.Schroder completely blew it. He wanted more from the Lakers and sucked during the playoffs. He will definitely have no leverage.
Maybe he should’ve gotten vaccinated then. He's the guy one of these bottom feeders should go for. He was coming back from Covid so not sure how he was supposed to look in the playoffs.
And Tylenol by far.Maybe he should’ve gotten vaccinated then.
I don’t have a lot of patience for that type of ignorance. Aspirin is more dangerous.
