Jazz vs Pacers Summer League 7-7-10 @ 5pm

The Jazz' opening possession Hayward's drive on Paul was nice as well it just was goal tended that wasn't called, he also had a nice dish to KK that would've been a dunk but it looked like the timing was a little off but KK should've still caught and finished it.

Yeah, that opening play was a goaltend. While Rolle got way up, so did Hayward. He was well above the rim where he layed it up. That's why I think it was a goal tend because he laid it right on the board, at least three or four inches ABOVE the rim, at least that's how it looked on the Internet feed. But I didn't see a close-up. I think that deflated his confidence a little after that, as he did jack up a couple threes that he missed. But that Rolle has some athletic ability.

Aside from the steal and dunk, Hayward had a pretty bad game. I don't care that much about total stats, but he passed up shots seemingly thinking "I'll be a team player." The Jazz' offensive philosophy is to get good shots. If you pass up a good shot, it better be to get a better one. Hayward had the one pass to Rice for a three that Hayward should have taken. He also had a dribble pull up 17 footer on the baseline running a pick with Augustine that he should have taken. Instead, he dribbles and passes it back to Augustine in back offensive position for that big man, so the Jazz are in a much weaker offensive position at that point. Hayward has to take that shot.

Agreed 100%. I almost got a feeling that Hayward was afraid to take matters into his own hands. Being a team player is all good, but the team was not doing well, he had good opportunities, and he passed them up. In other words, he had a chance to step up and he didn't as if he were afraid to fail. No the best game for Hayward. He did show a bit of athleticism in this game, as he got up pretty well in the first play (which clearly came off the board and should have been a goal tend), and also a block and a a dunk after steal. But he is just not very strong at the post. He really needs to add some strength and size or he will get abused at the post by NBAs SFs.

George had his best game, Hayward had his worst. Before tonight both were averaging 11 PPG with George getting 6 more minutes per game and putting up 8 more shots per game than Hayward. Plus, it's summer league.
And for all the Hayward haters, please tell me how many points Turner and Favors have been putting up? Both have sturggled. I'm not worried about your man, honz. Rookies will struggle, especially with Gaines at the point. Seriously, does Sundiata do anything but come down the floor and look to drive and put up a shot? It's like watching a bigger, slower version of Dee Brown. I hope the Jazz can pick up a better PG for TC. Or maybe right after teams cut down to their 13-15. There's bound to be a few vets cut that would be better than Gaines.

Koufos has looked all right, except he hasn't shown much defensively. Same with Augustine. Bigs have had their way against the Jazz through 3 games.

George had his best game against Hayward. I still like George as a player, but it's way too early to judge either of them. On top of that, I think a lot of teams are going to regret passing on Lance Stephenson.

My thoughts:

Too many whistles and substitutions. The Jazz are really doing nobody any favors with the amount of guys they bring to Orlando and the way they distribute minutes. I would like to see them change that for the last few games.

Kosta - was solid again. Gaining confidence it seems. Even went up and got a dunk! :-o !

Hayward - not a game you watch and feel good about him as the #9 pick. Shot the ball terribly. Missed his threes by A LOT. He seems like he is genuinely lacking confidence. Got beat defensively too a couple of times.

Evans - had a few flashes in this game. One moster block. Good D. If he can put on some muscle mass between now and camp he may actually have a shot to make the team.

Sundiata - bad game. I think his poor FT shooting has really gone to his head. He looked confident early in summer league and now cant hit the broad side of the barn.

Othyus - not much to say. I dont see him on the Jazz this season. Maybe only for his cheerleading skills, which are great.

Augustine - continues to do solid work. Would like to see him in camp. Seemingly has a chance to make the team.

Especially with Paul George making some stupid mistakes (5 TOs) but also ending with 15 points and 9 rebounds.

Yeah, Hayward didn't have a great game. Oh well. BUT if you look at the stat sheet for the other high profile picks, a lot of them didn't do so well either. Favors had 4 points, Turner was around 1 for 7 shooting. George had been shooting less than 40% coming into this game. None of the rookies, from my quick scan, are really playing consistently good ball (I may have overlooked some). So if one's going to use this one game as a reason to doubt Hayward pick, then Turner and Favors are looking mighty bad too--worse even since they were taken much higher.

It's fun to speculate based on this, but deep down inside this should be tempered by realization that this probably doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot.

I liked Kofous' state line, but not the 4 fouls.

Or 5 TOs

Bring JC Carroll to camp as a third guard. He's having a good summer league or bring Kevin Kruger in. At least he can shoot free throws.
