What's new

Jehovah Witnesses

I think the window thing needs more of an explanation. I've heard the urban legend my entire life, and while the Kingdom halls I've seen have all had some small windows, I've heard that they are only there for fire code and that they are blacked out by heavy curtains on the inside. Also heard that the windows are fake to keep people from asking questions. Is any of that true? Why?

Another question, not so serious -- In their literature, in the sketches of paradise, have you ever noticed that the men are almost always wearing sweaters? Is paradise or heaven (or whatever the future utopia is called) only inhabited with men who wear sweaters? Wearing a sweater and picking fruit, it looks nice but also kind of bizare.

There's always a nice cool breeze in heaven.

Not in my experience. I was able to see out of windows.

There's a lot that's bizarre in their depections.

Good people. It requires a lot of dedication to be an active member of their faith and I think by doing so leads to people being fairly happy. I disagree with some of their doctrines but they're generally really good people with possibly a few over zealous members that everyone uses as the stereotype and caracaturizes.

For the record, my dad's parents were JW's, my mom's parents were Catholic, my mom and dad were basically nothing/agnostic.

I ended up non-denominational Christian.

Tell a JW missionary you are Mormon (and if you are really ambitious, try to hand them a BOM) and they typically leave you alone...
Tell a Mormon missionary you are a JW, they spend the next 6 months trying to get you to agree to take the discussions...

My half-sister's grandmother (on the side of no relation to me) is one. She took us out to dinner and I got the whole lecture. She asked me what my faith was. Knowing enough to not tell her I was agnostic to get that lecture, I told her I was a Methodist (half true...I am a member of a UMC Church). I then got a lecture about believing in a church that believes in the Trinity. At that point I gave up, nodded, and quit paying attention.

I do not think it does anyone any good to just go about taking turns talking negatively about a faith especially since there is no one here to give it according to their eyes.

Personal experiences does not necessarily equate to talking negatively.

What if the thread had been started about electrons?

I think most people have been positive, I have had nothing but good experiences with JW's. I haven't believed a word they said but they were good people.

I feel sorry for them. They would rather die then get blood transfusion. I start questioning mental health of people who put religious dogmas and restrictions above science and common sense. I would like to ask any jew or muslim, when faced with death from starvation if they would eat pork if it would be only option or rather die? Lets say there was earthquake and you stuck underground with no food but pork salami - eat it or die? Whats stronger in you - your instinct to live or your faith?

Things like that do not sit well with me. I ask her to stop. If she didn't I'd leave.

Don't. They are living a way of life that they believe in.

If they are committed to their faith (as you kind of have to be to stay a member of the religions you mentioned) I would bet 8 out of 10 would starve because they believe that there is more to existence than life on earth. Its the "live now or be rewarded in the afterlife" scenario.

Wrong. Muslims are allowed to eat pork, or any other non-halal food if there is nothing else to eat, i.e. if you're a war criminal in prison, and they always serve pork chops for dinner. Totally okay. Nice try though. Maybe try doing some actual research about the faiths you criticize before making such dumb conclusions.

The Quran 2:173

He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of Allah. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then is he guiltless. For Allah is Oft-forgiving Most Merciful.

why you have so much anger? Thanks for educating about it as I had wrong idea but please restrain youself from unnecessary insults - does not make you look "peaceful" follower of your faith.
