This and injuries and when he stopped tweeting about ladies all the time. Something changed him along the way.

This is true... fun kanter was good. He was on a Gronk like path.

Yes and when we all read DL said he wanted "young talent" we all predicted this "young talent" would be what amounts to their 7th D-League player on the roster this season and a back-up Euro who is about to be let out of his contract.

Not DL's fault that his version of "young talent" doesn't align with yours. That doesn't change the fact that he got what he said he was looking for.

Quit it Ben, you're one-man-wrecking all of the preposterous DL hate.

1. Exactly, so it was kept irrelevant with the bonus of acquiring a small asset.

2. 4 M by itself is inconsequential. Can add up with other stuff, and, as shown, was an easy move.
My point was only that the Jazz only freed up cap space this summer by moving Novak, who was packaged with a 2nd round pick to the Jazz this summer. Without that move, the Jazz are out a 2nd, and save no cap space. There were posters getting excited about extra cap space, but no extra cap space was created, especially if the Jazz could just move an expiring Novak this next summer for a 2nd.

I'll take the FO at its word that it believed in Kanter. I do think keeping Kanter over what the trade ended up being value-wise is slightly better, but not amazingly so. I remember reading reports somewhere that the market for Kanter has always been tepid.
I can back off my evaluation of the trade given the circumstances a bit. If Enes's people made it clear that he would be a problem if he weren't moved and that he would accept the QO this coming summer, making this deal makes some sense. With that said, if the reports of this brewing for a while are true, I think it's fair to place blame on DL for not making a deal sooner for more. Sure, there's no guarantee that there was a better deal out there a couple months ago, but:

1. The Nuggs received two superior 1st round draft picks from the Cavs for Timofey Mosgov (not that they'd have preferred Kanter).

2. DL has lost Millsap, Al and Kanter for a late 1st round pick (or two 2nds), a 2nd round pick, Pleiss and Garrett. Even if you include the haul from the Golden State deal - Hood and another late 1st - that looks like really bad asset management to me. If this reactionary behavior weren't becoming a trend with DL, no big deal, but it will be two offseasons and three seasons going into the summer with DL doing very little to increase the team's asset base or acquire more impact players.

3. Kanter, who has never seemed particularly bright to me, just played the Jazz FO.

You should link to your post since I'm not traversing 25 pages.
I included the #7 pick at 120% of the rookie scale. Here's my post:

A quick rundown of the Jazz cap situation:

Salaries for Gordo, Favs, Burks, Exum, Trey, Hood, Rudy and the 7th pick (at 120% of scale): $48,685,757
Salary of Booker if he's retained (can be bought out for $650k or, as a result, easily moved): $53,460,575

Total with roster charges ($525,093 x 4) without Booker: $50,785,947
Total with roster charges ($525,093 x 3) with Booker: $55,035,854

Projected salary cap: $66.5mm

Cap space without Booker: $15,714,053
Cap space with Booker: $11,464,146

Maximum salary for a player with 0-6 years of service time: ~$15,549,179

So...the Jazz may be able to sign one good free agent IF they choose not to bring over Pleiss or Tomic.

Not picking on you - I have tons of respect for you.. This is the 4th or 5th time I've heard this and it's driving me nuts. I have to wonder how and when our standards got lowered to choices between a sub-standard deal or no deal at all. I think Jazz fans should expect more from their team - I know I do.

10 years ago The Jazz traded for a vet center who they then bought out and got a late first round pick. Only that trade was for a malcontent scrub with zero upside - Carlos Arroyo. Jazz just traded a number 3 pick with real upside for the same assets - insane.

Good point. We should expect more. The Jazz 're-signed 3 out of the "core four" Last guy didn't want to be here and the Jazz didn't appear to want to sign him. So they got what they could. Sometimes bad situations happen and you do the best that you can.

Still withholding an opinion till free agency and the draft go down. But good points.
