Knicks vs Cavs 1st Round Series (Mitchell Getting *** Whooped by Brunson Season 2)

I’ve always been one to say that Mitchell has the physical tools to be a good defender, and I still think that’s true, but I also don’t think he can be a good defender while being such a high usage player. There are no small guards in the NBA who are super usage players and also good defenders.

There are limits to the amount of energy you can expend and I just don’t think you can be a 30+ usage guy and be a good defender as a small guard. You have to spend so much more energy when you don’t have size on defense. Looking at the list of smaller guards in the NBA…..how far down in usage do you have to go to find a good defender? You could argue Curry….but that’s about it unless you want to call Shai or Jrue small (they aren’t).

One of two things needs to happen. Mitchell needs to scale down and be a 25% usage guy who plays good defense or he can’t play with another deficient defensive guard.
Book ain’t very big. I think it’s the complete non participation at times that irritates folks.

Yeah if you watch Trae Young on defense you can identify things that Mitchell does as well. Just disconnected and goes through motions but doesnt really have a killer instinct to stop the guy.

If thats your leader, then expect the employees to slack as well.

Wow Mitchell laid a hell of a turd this last game didn't he? 11 pts, 6 TO, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 5 for 18 from the floor and 0 for 4 from 3. Yikes!

Brunson 29 points, 6 assts 6 boards, 50% from the field, 5-9 from 3. Wow.

Which one is the all-star?

A lot of saltiness in this thread for a guy who at worst got us Lauri Markkanen.

Donovan isn't a perfect person or basketball player, but I'm still cheering for him.
The saltiness of Korver passing up a couple threes for his percentage on his first go-around here also lasted a very, very long time for some. For us being the closest we’ve ever been in 25 years, and arguably ever, based on how open our pathway could have been, to have those opportunities squandered by selfishness, lack of discipline, and willful lack of focus, compensated only by a narcissistic lack of preparedness and a “trust me, bro, it’s okay” aura, with a gigantic hand in that being Donovan’s, then I have no problem appreciating when he discovers that those situations weren’t granted and bestowed on him because of his transcendent greatness and perceived affable humility, and his eventual realization of how the grass was actually greener here but it was callously wasted with immaturity. Immaturity that, sure, may be expected for his age, but that his public image eschewed and such maturity that the magnitude of such responsibility given to him was predicated on him having, that he claimed he was ready for because of his specialness.

The new Knicks FO did a really good job of building, and it really hasn't been done with high draft picks. Barrett and Toppin, sure they are helping, but it's really been a strong sequence a nailing smaller moves and later draft picks. Randle, Brunson, Quickley, Robinson, Grimes, Hart, Hartenstein. Fantastic job that shows how much you can get done without using premium resources.
Randle was a high draft pick.

Those two jazz trades have made me gun shy to any trades for stars.
I mean take away the draft picks we got in both trades and we still win the trades pretty comfortably imo.

If we were to trade for a Luka or dame or whatever then I worry that I would end up feeling like the Cavs and minny fans feel right now.

If I were a minny fan I would totally want to trade Gobert for Kessler (younger, cheaper, similar production), Beasley, and Vando.

If I were a cave fan I would love to trade Donovan for Lauri, Sexton and Ochai.

That's without the draft picks involved.
