Lakers-Jazz Trade

Whatever they want (besides Lebron/AD)

for

Whatever we want (of their draft assets)

That's my proposal. The more specific reasoning here is that the Lakers could go a lot of different ways with their preferences (multi-year contracts or expirings? The lower-bound of returning salary that saves them tens of millions in cash, or the higher-bound that gets them a better team [this gap is like $20+ million in returning contracts]?). So just let them go wild. But for a price.

3-for-1 is what it will be. Essentially let them pick the three players they want without making us go into the luxury tax. It would likely be some combination of Bogey/Conley/Beasley/Clarkson.

Interestingly enough, I just checked and Bogey/Conley/Vanderbilt is around 500k short of matching Westbrook’s salary.

It is definitely one of these:

Bogey/Beasley/Clarkson

Bogey/Conley/Vanderbilt

Unless they want to pay like 40M+ extra in luxury tax but I doubt it.

If we want the picks then be serious about it. Not like the Jazz won't save money in future years or have other opportunities to shed some salary this year. Hell, they could hold Westbrook hostage and ask that he take a buyout the size of the amount the Jazz are over the LT.

Haven’t done any scenarios with salary matching yet but the absolute most we could go into the luxury tax in a Westbrook deal is 7.7M and it be a legal trade. Theoretically, we could hold Westbrook out unless he agreed to be bought out for 39.3M or less lol. I like it but not sure it’s realistic.

EDIT: Bogey/Beasley/Vanderbilt adds 7.5M worth of salary for us.

The more I think about it we could technically just trade two players for Westbrook if we bought him out and still end up at 15 players.

The only two scenarios where that works is:

Bogey/Conley
Conley/Beasley

A lot of different options.

Guis…

What if we just held on to Westbrook just long enough for the dust to settle in NY and let the Knicks Knick and eventually feel pressure to bring in a star and former MVP. He’d be the biggest star since Carmelo. Of course, I don’t know what salary matching would look like for that, but that will cost extra. They give us a small portion of the Mitchell offer and they can have Westbrook and salary relief.

Fournier, Rose and Reddish works for Westbrook and it’s a total New York move.

That ain't getting the job done for the Lakers though.

Here's what I just ran

Bogey, Beasley, Vando, and JC
Westbrook and Nunn

Difference of 800k. Lakers get a real rotation, and there's a decent chance JC opts out too, which is a shot at a clean cap sheet next year for free agency chasing (or being able to say to Kyrie "sorry, ~$25 million is the most we can offer" but be happy about it).

Would be thrilled to send Conley in the trade and I think he'd be a great fit for them but the contract is just too problematic to get the whole haul IMO.
