LDS Church fined for contributions to Prop 8!! HA!

Wow Kicky really?.....Again like I said...its like teaching a primary lesson. Learn how the church's leadership is structured. This way you won't look as dumb when you spew this crap.

There is a functional procedure that has traditionally been used to call a prophet. There is nothing that would prevent Buttars from being called as prophet and then set apart as an Apostle immediately prior to receiving this calling. This is the process presently used to sustain Bishops who have not yet attained the position of High Priest.

And obviously I picked an extreme example, it's meant to shed light on a particular point: is there any single person that could be called to be head of the church that would shake your faith? What if it there was a leadership crisis in the LDS church now like there is in the American branches of the Catholic church? If it turned out that the Prophet was a habitual diddler of young boys that wouldn't make you think twice at all about the institution that saw fit, with help from God, to make him the leader?

Do you really put this level of blinders on? I mean, it's one thing to love your church but love it like an adult, not the way a three year old loves her mommy.

How many times are you going to ask the poor gentleman the same question a different way? What makes you think his answer is going to change? Do you suppose he'll ever be able to answer it in a way that you can actually understand, if you don't already understand his answer (which has been very consistent)?

I am giving you a thumbs down, sirkickyass. :(

The senior apostle becomes Prophet. Buttars would have to be called an apostle and then wait for the others to die off. Also playing these "what if" games is pretty stupid. I have complete confidence in the Apostle and leader of the church. But I understand they make mistakes the same that I would.

Also why do you think humans mistakes would shake my faith in Jesus Christ? That makes absolute no sense.

You know he never answered the question.. if someone like Buttars was called an apostle and then everybody died ahead of him and he became the prophet, would it make you think twice? it's a simple question.

If you were a hotdog and you were starving would you eat yourself?

If Buttars was called Prophet I would not question my faith is Jesus Christ. I believe I have said this a few times.

How is getting free money from my wife's tribe funny? I think its awesome but not haha funny.

The whole idea of getting free money because of an injustice that happened generations ago is laughable. Kind of like the guy who came into my office today and was so thrilled that his unemployment check was more than what he could get at a job, and that he was going to milk it to the end. Haha, that is funny stuff right there.

Again, Cleveland sucks my ***.

The money we receive is from the Casinos that the tribe owns. Not the US government.

Sometimes I wonder if people are called to positions so God can really test peoples faith and other things he wants us to have. The LDS church teaches that it should support its leaders and sometimes, it can be very hard. Not saying that there are a ton of leaders that are the extreme like Buttars, but I'm sure there are a lot of people that are learning patience, charity, and long suffering (lol) because they have such terrible leaders. On my mission, an AP was called, and I absolutely couldn't stand him. This AP was seriously crazy. I'm not kidding you. I did a split with him one time before he became AP and we talked to some random guy on the street in the rain for two hours. I didn't say a word, and this missionary talked the whole time. At the end, he tried to force the gentleman we were talking with to take a BoM. The man politely declined. This missionary began to cry, and did the worst acting job I've ever seen to manipulate the man. He began sob like a baby and then out of no where, he started to beat his head with the BoM the man didn't take to try and make him feel bad that he didn't accept. Granted, this missionary worked very hard, and knew the scriptures crazy good, but I always felt weird around him and I seriously felt the complete opposite of what I think the spirit feels like. Anyways, after he became AP he taught us at a zone conference and told us that we needed to repent for how we've read the scriptures our whole life, but not to worry because he would teach us how to read them right during his lesson. I was a Zone Leader at the time, and I had to convince about 4 Elders that were extremely pissed not to riot. I told them that he was in that position to test our faith. To this day I think I learned a lot from that experience and rather have it shake my faith, it made me think about things a little clearer. Anyways, I'm just rambling... Ok, bye.

So you think it's awesome that you receive money gained from the sins of others? Do you also own a **** site?

No, people have there free agency. Its legal. The Miller family sells alcohol at Jazz games. There are many LDS restaurant and grocery owners or workers that sell alcohol and cigarettes. There is nothing that says this is wrong or a sin in our church.

Do you pay tithing on it?

I don't believe we're questioning whether you would stop believing in God, or Jesus Christ. The church itself could be considered a separate entity. Would you question whether or not "the church" was infallible if someone as crazy as Buttars was at the top of it?

Good points Archie. one question.. at what point would you have to question the actions of a leader who might be doing too much damage?

+1 rep. Completely valid perspective.

Addendum to Archie's post:

While church callings (especially bishops) are supposed to divinely inspired, I suspect that they sometimes are not. But not by God's choice. Those who are choosing others for positions within the church are supposed to pray about it and seek inspiration. Not all do. Sometimes choices are made politically, or even randomly. Hopefully this isn't always the case. But it happens. When my wife and I were first married, we lived in a ward with a mean, vindictive, heinous bishop. He drove people out of the ward. I wondered how God could pick this guy to lead a congregation. But it didn't shake my faith, it just made me avoid him. God only helps in the decision process when He's asked to.

That's my 2c.
