We've been through a lot together. There have been downs and some pretty cool ups. Along the way there was always hope that our latest acquisition or draft pick would bring us back to what we became accustomed to in the Stockton/Malone years. We've had winning streaks and losing streaks, and a lot of injuries along the way. But even when we were terrible it seemed like most of us enjoyed the process. It's not really about the end game for most of us, we just want to see great effort and good players and coaches doing their thing and good decisions by the front office. Regardless of where we end up this season we have witnessed some of the best basketball ever played by any team in history so I guess you could call this a culmination of years of fandom. And it's ok to revel in the moment, smell the roses along the way as they say.
In that spirit let's look back on moments good and bad where you thought we were finally getting over the hump or doomed to eternal mediocrity.
One of those times for me was the 2011-12 Jazz, our first year without Deron. The first full season of Tyrone Corbin. Faves and Hayward were coming off nice rookie seasons and we drafted Enes and AB to go along with Millsap, DMC, Earl "the bulldog" Watson, Jefferson and recent all-star Devin Harris. I was pumped. I thought this was it. We had a little bit of Air Jordan in AB and Enes had blown up the Nike Hoop Summit. Hayward scored over 30 points twice his rookie year. Faves had moments where he looked like a top talent. We had an All-star PG. Jefferson was an automatic 20-25 pts. And Millsap was our anchor. We started out 9-4(5 game win streak) in the lockout shortened season then devolved into team who gave an effort every other game. Ty seemed unable to get the most from our team. He also seemed unable to call a timeout. I remember Favors loafing down the court. We had three 5-game win streaks where you thought we might be damn good but that was fools gold. Made the playoffs and got blown out by the Spurs.
