Lockout!!!

Why? I don't get why some people seem to be taking this issue personally. Is your bank account going to be affected by this? Will you feel better about the rich getting richer, just because they're not as rich as the other side? I honestly couldn't care less about the wealth of the people on either side of this. My only hope is that Utah benefits from a few league changes.
I don't disagree with any of that, but it seems like there are a lot of people repeating all the owners' talking points without going deeper or being the least bit skeptical. For whatever reason (I imagine it has something to do with access to media outlets), the owners have done a much better job than the players communicating with the public, and convincing them that they're on the side of the angels. For various reasons, discussed in several articles throughout the process, much of that seems like utter ******** (to me, at least).

I don't consider myself to be on either the owners' or players' "side". I just want a deal done.

About done with this. I'm not buying anything NBA related regardless if they get a deal done or not, and advise anyone to do the same. If your not in Utah just stream the games, screw LP.

How do you cave on something you didn't even care about to begin with? It seems the only thing the owners ever cared about was what split of BRI they'd be getting, which was fairly transparent from the start.

Scream it from the mountain tops! The NBA had a chance to fix some of the issues of inequity in the league and have instead opted to focus on short-term financial returns with the leverage (that they've largely invented).

I've mentioned this in another thread, I believe, but the fact that the owners seem to have the public on their side has little to do with media, and everything to do with preparation. They have likely been planning this lockout for a few years, while the players' union did jack all. Even though it was fairly obvious the last year or so that the league would not even consider extending the old CBA's terms.

It's not that the players' PR was bad, it's that they had no PR. And it goes much further than that. I'm a teacher and I'm a member of a union. My union has a "warchest," paid for by a portion of our dues, that acts as a bit of a safety net in case of a strike, or even a lockout. It allows the union to pay a certain percentage of wages for half a year or a year. Not your entire wages, obviously, but about 50-60%. I wouldn't know, I haven't been teaching for that long and there have been no strikes.

Why haven't the players done that? If there is a mutiny within their camp, it's going to be led by guys making the league minimum and those just above them. When paycheques stop coming, they will be the ones hurt. Why didn't the players set up a fund to at least pay some money out to those guys in the lowest income brackets in the NBA? It would have strengthened their hand immensely? Instead, most of the time you can't even tell there's a players' union, and then lockouts come and suddenly players think it's going to save their asses and get them a sweet deal.

They are business man , it is their job to communicate, negotiate, players seem a little dumb and dull in this picture for me. I think a deal won't be done unless players come down to at least 51

If the mid level exception goes down to 5 million per year, does anyone think we can re sign AK for that price?

I find it too difficult to think of roster moves while the parties are arguing over money and we don't know whether there's a season at all.

Hunter/Fisher are botching this thing every which way. In over their heads. Almost shockingly oblivious to reality.

Yea because the owners have been so willing to compromise. The owners are actually like a bunch of bullies. I am not a big fan of Fisher but what is he suppose to do take a bad deal.
