Looking for genuine discourse re: Donald Sterling/NBA

Is it "the reason"? No. But there is a popular romanticising, if you will, of the gangster lifestlye amoung the entertainment industry that is directed at black Americans. Of course that has an effect. Especially when, at least from what I see, it is over whelming in abundance.

Guys, violence and crime started with hip-hop and rap culture. Obviously.

I agree to a point though. The music industry promotes way too many negative artist and don't put out enough music that is more informed/aware/make people think.

Who is control of that though? Rich white people.

Never made that claim. Rich white people do have a say in it. A rather large one. But there are plenty of rich blacks that do the same exact thing. Go look at all the rappers that have started their own record labels and market their own up and coming rappers.

Basically my point is that while this is not "the cause" of what is happening it clearly reinforces it.

At least, when he's not playing a policeman threatening and assaulting other black people.

I believe some educated luminary once described that as "black police showing out for the white cop."

Oh wait, that was Ice Cube. My bad.

lol... and rich black people. Maybe you should just say rich people.

First of all we were not talking about Rythym and Blues or Jazz in this thread. Focus.

Why? Does it weaken your case too much to acknowledge that similar arguments have been used about various musical genres over the years? Do you give any credence to the notion that Iron Maiden was a corrupting influence, as opposed to a response and an attempt to make money? If not, why is it different for certain types of rap?

Are they creating the issue? No. They are however reinforcing it. But I've already said that to you as you well know. Please stop being disengenous.

They are selling what people want to hear. The people who want to hear it will get it from some source. You might as well blame the makers of pornographic films for reinforcing the notion that sex is pleasurable.

As for what I consider the final bands you mentioned. Please do not assume you know anything about what I consider them since at no point in time have we ever talked about them, that form of music or the affects that they had on the culture during their time.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but my assumption has been that you don't consider any of them corrosive.

seems pretty single-dimensional to think that those who are buying/paying for the music are doing it because it's what they want to hear...

what about doing it because they're just following what someone else is doing...
or what they think will make them seem cool...
or because they know their parents/guardians object...

lot's of reasons, and the specific meaning behind the actual lyrics is often pretty far down the list

You are correct. I meant for it to be much more generic than just the lyrics, but perhaps it came out poorly. I think my intended point (that the desire of the audience drives the package, not the other way around, still stands.

Like this rich white guy.

Guys, get back on track! Donald sterling has no birdhouse in his soul! In fact, he has no soul at all, so a birdhouse would be kinda pointless.
