Game Thread May 31, 2021 07:30PM MT: Jazz at Grizzlies - Game 4

Added to Calendar: 05-31-21

As measured by defensive rating, the grizzlies are 6th and the clippers are 7th. And the grizzlies were #1 in the nba this season for steals.

The grizzlies were objectively either equal or just a bit better than the clippers this year by pretty much any defensive metric. Now offensively the clippers are much better, that's where we will really be tested. Can we stop them where they have 2 of the best wings in the nba and we keep making scrubs like Brooks look like Michael Jordan.
Royce does pretty good on Kawhi and we all know we've got the PG stopper.

But that has also allowed them to play loose and above their skill level. If they had any nerves, this wouldn’t be a series.
Only thing making games competitive is that Ja is unusually great at floaters.

At the end of the day you just have to tip your hats to Memphis as they have shown up to play in this series and are playing their best basketball right now. With that said I'm not sure the Jazz are playing up to their potential as of yet. Too many boneheaded mistakes and lapses in focus.

What stood out the most to me is how Rudy shut down the paint even without blocking many shots. Times and times again Grizzlies got there and were passing the shots instead of taking it hard to the rack. Even JV instead of going for his highly effective hook shot was passing back to somebody just to brick long jumper. The effect Rudy had on this game was not possible to measure in any metric but just seeing how opponents where feeling his presence was amazing. If he does not win DPOY is a travesty.

what worries me is the jazz are turning the ball over to the likes of KYLE "cement feet" anderson. If the jazz get past the grizzlies they will most likely face the clippers next round, who are even tougher on defense.
Kyle Anderson has long arms with quick hands. No surprise to me he's picked our pockets multiple times each game. We haven't learned our lesson of iso'ing against him

Uhh, keep isoing him lmao. He's getting a couple of lucky strips. Most times they can get by him and wreck their defense. No one survives on D in the NBA off stripping ball-handlers.

I've never seen a DPOY have the bulk of the conversation about him be about what he's bad at. It's ridiculous.
The words were fine... the overall idea is fine "you need to dictate where Rudy gets involved... because he will get involved... and if he dictates that then its over".

To do it just showing him get scored on is so predictably Draymond. It was hilarious because i literally turned to my BIL and said "watch Draymond gonna bag on Rudy"... and then he spent most of the time showing how they can and did score on him... without showing one example of how bad it is to test him in the paint.

I love guys that gamble when they guard me... they will get you here and there but if you know they like to try and pick pocket it is so easy to tease and burn past them. I think Kyle is actually better in help with his long arms so going right at him takes him out of that part of the equation.

What's impressive is that the Jazz are winning these games without putting major minutes on any of the starters. Dont think anyone has gone over 37 minutes this series.

The one on DM was a pretty obvious foul... it is basically impossible to reach across the body from where he was and get it clean. Might be clean on the ball but that's because he delivered a clothesline.
