They decided not to expand, because they didn't have a time line, which was a smart move. Less than a week later a chain reaction of things happen like Colorado joining the PAC10 and the BIG schools probably won't now, at least to the PAC 10. Maybe Nebraska to the BIG 10 and that's about it. I bet the MWC paniced about the possibility of losing Utah and decided to get Boise St to persuade Utah to stay in the conference. I don't have a problem with it at all.

No on that one. Utah is gone if the Pac 10 offer is there, as they should be. I don't think the MWC is that stupid that they think adding Boise State would overcome being in the same conference as USC and Texas.

That seems to be it. So....Ute fans....your fate is in aTm's hands. Although the Pac 10 could always take one of the Big 12 leftovers before you so there still is some competition there, but I do think Utah wins that battle based on proximity.

With regard to the scenario I mentioned above, it's looking like it would be between Kansas and Utah (but would KU split with KSU?) to be that last team in, with the only thing making it not happen would be if Texas demands Baylor be invited as the 5th team from the B12. If Texas demands Baylor, the PAC would surely concede.

Why would they want Baylor? The only way they choose Baylor over Utah is if it means they can't have Texas without them.

That said I had heard somewhere that Baylor has the same type of problems as BYU with regards to the PAC. Is this true? Are they a religious school? Do they meet the research institution requirement? I can't remember where I heard it.

I'll try and look it up as I know nothing about Baylor other than they were the laughing stock of the BCS conferences.

Right. The only way the PAC takes Baylor is if Texas won't go if they don't.

I think the statement was more or less that they had decided not to expand at the present time. MWC was obviously waiting for a few moves to be made. Nebraska and Colorado were the two biggies that prompted the BSU invite to be made. Now the MWC has become a player with 4 top teams - unless Utah goes elsewhere. Opens the door for further expansion if the Big 12 folds. Or, the Big 12 could invite BYU and TCU to replace defectors with Utah leaving for the "PAC-11 and counting."
 
Utah's chances have seem to completely disappear since I last payed attention to expansion a mere 8 hours ago. Looks Kansas or aTm for shizzle. Utah and the Big 12 staying together seem like the ultimate long shots now. This stuff is driving me nuts though. If it wasn't raining like a mother hubber, I would be tempted to go camping right now.

So are they now saying they're not expanding again?

What's the point of making that announcement when you only go back on it 4 days later. The words just seem rather hollow.
