Talking about the holocaust specifically, not crusades or anything else doe.

I mean, I have no interest in arguing anything about the holocaust, I've just never heard people believing in Nazis being Christians was literally a thing at all. I thought it was pretty standard belief that Hitler was anti-Christian and everything about the Nazi movement was a belief in their superiority because of their race, not because of religion.

I don't think Hitler hated Jews as a religious group, but as an ethnic group. I thought this was agreed upon fact. Guess not?

Hitler was born a Catholic but was not Christian as an adult. He was into Nietzsche. Hilter’s core advisors (Goebbels, Himmler, Heydrich and Bormann) were atheists. They misused and misread Nietzsche, using his concept of the ubermensch as an excuse for their ethics (beyond good and evil) and his "will to power" as their recruitment slogan. Zarathustra was common reading for Nazi soldiers. Nietzsche was an actual influence on Hitler, Christianity not nearly so much.

My post was about Hitler, his advisors, and the philosopher that had a direct influence on them. Not saying that the German people were not susceptible to anti-Semitism or Christian theologians like Luther or that Hilter did not use anti-Semitic feelings to help perpetuate the Holocaust. All that is obvious.

This is exactly what I have been saying. All this stuff on race the left is pushing is dangerous. Its giving weak minds a reason to feel offended, over stuff they shouldnt be offended by.

All its doing is causing more problems with race relations.

So what is your evidence that counter all of the studies that show minorities being discriminated at judged based on their perceived race? You have given anecdotal evidence of yourself that is very unconvincing but even if it was convincing is still pointless evidence. People make judgments about everyone they see immediately. Whether those judgments are good or bad is up to that individual who made them and obviously how they act is up to them. But every study I have seen that shows situations of equality with the only factor being skin color, non white people get the short end of the stick in this country. You denying this and pointing fingers at the people who bring attention to this are a large part of the problem. You say you judge people off of their culture and character but you dont know that about a person until you get to know them. So you are making assumptions about their culture and character based off of their looks. Everyone makes snap judgements about people and they are based on appearance. That doesnt make you bad, often the judgments you make are based on preconceived notions that society has perpetuated. Some of those are bad some of those are good. It is up to the individual to take the time to decipher the origin and truthfulness of those judgments. Many people do not think them through. That is why people are not treated equal because of their skin color in this country. Even if you feel you have never done this and have never had a racists thought in your life it does not take away from the fact that injustices are happening because of peoples skin color. They might not be lynching, genocide or slavery but it is still damaging peoples lives.

Many Arabs are racist as hell. What does being white have to do with it? From my experience, some people care about race, and some don't.

When working in the West Bank, one of my colleagues and good friends there took me to dinner where he went on at length describing all of the various Jewish conspiracies and how Jews controlled the financial sectors, Hollywood, etc. This guy is a very decent person who is, however, quite bigoted, at least in terms of his views about Jews. I imagine that these kind of beliefs are quite common among other rank and file Muslims. I tried to explain to him how his views were false stereotypes and compared it to the kind of false stereotypes that people in the US have about Muslims. I doubt I said anything to change his mind.

So, yes, my own experience tends to confirm the above quote. What does it mean? I guess Muslims are people too and as prone to the same temptation to engage in negative stereotyping as any other group of people. No better, no worse.

None of this is relevant, however, to how we should think about and treat Muslims in this country. For everyone negative stereotype of Muslims, one case easily turn around and apply the same to other groups,including Christians. They deserve the same respect for their human dignity and access to all civil rights/liberties as any other group of people.

People have the right to think as they please. Maybe even to respond as they please to what others think or do. You've got too much time on your hands if you believe you know best, or that you should regulate all this attitude and perception.

Computer is partly right. Well, except for characterizing those "weak minded" folks and moralizing whatis acceptable for feeling offended obout. Obama and the Dems are exploiting ignorant people for political gain, and the losers are those whom they get all riled up and upset about stuff that others do them out of ignorance or whatever. By far, the most deplorable racists on this scene are the exploiters.

Ghandhi and Martin Luther King were better leaders, and taught higher principles, and lifted up the people whom they influenced to higher principled lines of action. All Obama and the Dems today are doing is inciting riot, inflaming the black community to torch their own neighborhoods.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone really believe that, if not constrained by the Rule of Law and with relatively unfettered access to political power, Evangelical Christians in this country would respect civil liberties/rights?

What is preventing outcomes in this country from mimicking that occurring in Muslim Countries is that the religions fundamentalists in this country are constrained by laws and hundred years of tradition of respect for the rule of law. Fundamentalist Christians in the US differ from fundamentalist Muslims in the Middle East mostly in that the former are constrained by laws and traditions of respect for law, while the latter are not. While the outcomes here may not be as extreme as they are elsewhere, what is there in the rhetoric and behavior of the true believers here that they would exercise restraint if given the power?

Back to Trump and today’s events. Trump’s “just words” excuse for his predatory remarks against women is becoming less believable with each new sexual assault allegation that emerges. As of this evening, at least ten women have come forward with their stories and it’s not unreasonable to assume there will be more in the coming days and weeks.

Trump’s flat out denial of abuse at last Sunday’s debate opened the floodgates; a slap in the face to all those he abused, some of whom are now willing to put their names and the veracity of their claims before the public and under the intense scrutiny that will now follow them for the remainder of the campaign, and likely for years to come, just as it has for the women abused by Bill Clinton.

This is the end of Trump’s campaign. He will stagger on to an increasingly unhinged and angry finish, but by the time he gets there only his most ardent supporters will be able to stomach voting for him. The important question is how Trump will handle his concession speech, whether he can somehow find even a sliver of the necessary grace to calm his supporters disappointment. If not, I expect there could be an ugly reaction once reality finally sinks in on election night.

If I picture myself walking up to a woman I don't know from Eve, and thrusting my tongue down her throat, or running my hand up her skirt to rub her vagina, I believe anyone would be justified in seeing that as an assault, as well as extraordinarily warped behavior. There would simply have to be something wrong with me. If anyone here can picture themselves doing this, and think "so what's really wrong with that", I guess maybe you accept, perhaps even admire, a man who does such a thing.

On the "what future holds" side, millions of his supporters seem to be buying into "it's all the fault of the press", and reporters have been stating they feel in danger to a degree at Trump rallies. No longer does Trump have to point to the press and call them scum. Instead the crowd is all over the press, screaming obscenities at them. I know the media's reputation is at a low point in our nation, but the press is the watchdogs for the electorate. Creating an army of followers who truly hate and blame the press for what may likely be a Trump loss is, IMHO, a devastating blow to our democracy. Again and again the man directs venom at the press. Shame on him for creating this mob mentality toward freedom of the press. Shame on him.

I know much of our national media, both print journalism and broadcast journalism, displays a liberal bias. But did Edward R. Murrow say "I must not point out the disgusting nature of Mccarthy's efforts or people will think I am biased?" No! He did what courageous members of the press must do if they are to fulfill their role as the watchdogs of a democracy. Yet Trump would create an army of followers who would clearly support any Trump efforts to suppress freedom of the press if he were elected. They would support suppressing freedom of the press. This is the absolute treasonous nature of what Trump is doing.....
