New Assistant Coach?

Solid choice. Point to his low NBA winning% all you want but that only proves to me that - as is true for 90% of all coaches - coaching teams with dreadful talent is difficult. And Lowe will only be an assistant so he won't be making the final decisions, and he's also experienced and respected enough that young players will listen to him.

I think it's important that Corbin got someone not only with substantial bench experience - but with head coaching experience. There are so many more things HC's have to worry about, in the heat of the battle it'll be good for Ty to have someone like Sidney there for assistance.

Unlike many previous Jazz assistants who enjoyed a lengthy stay in Utah and didn't jump the first time they were offered a promotion, I view this as a stepping-stone job for Lowe where he's still involved in the game but takes a backseat for a couple of years until a more attractive opportunity comes along.

As long as Lowe never wears that red blazer - I'm fine with the hire.

Based on what? Lowe stinks. Before I share why I think he's bad, why do you think he may be good?

Maybe Lowe is in the same vein as someone like John Lucas. Horrible head coach, but obviously has some coaching talent to last in the league for a long time as an assistant.

Is he known for being good at something specific? All I've seen is a guy that barks gibberish from the sideline and seems to have no offensive or defensive schemes. He had two very talented players last year (maybe more) in Ryan Harrow and CJ Leslie and they both got worse under Lowe. Harrow (PG) transferred to UK .. bet he TEARS it up.

Anyway, Lowes body of work (a.k.a. winning/player dev't) is worse than horrible. Hope this doesn't happen.

He's a freaking asst coach. Heck the Lakers tried real hard to get Boylen on their staff. Some people suck as head coaches, but thrive as assistants. I'll give Ty the benefit of the doubt here.

Stinks at what? Stinks at coaching awful teams with no talent? Okay sure. It's a 3rd assistant position, don't know why people were expecting Jeff Van Gundy to fly in and save the day.

Is it a third assistant? I think he's probably the #1 assistant.

Look up his record. Also, his teams sucked not for a lack of talent. Oh well, I guess if it's a position that doesn't matter ..

What? When did Christian Laettner become an all-world talent? When did a bunch of 23-year-olds ever succeed in the NBA? The dude was the head coach of terrible NBA teams.

I can't give a qualified opinion regarding his NC State tenure, but his NBA teams were the definition of no-talent teams. Pre-Garnett T'Wolves? Pre-Gasol Grizzlies? It's a miracle his record is as good as it is.

I was referring to his most recent tenure ... NC State. 25-54 in ACC play .. and he had CJ Leslie (sf/pf) who was mocked at 6 or 7 by DX and Ryan Harrow that is mocked at #10 for next years draft (after sitting out this year because of transferring out of NC State). Lowe was fired with 2 years remaining on his contract. Even if it's an assistant, why not get someone that develops players or something? I'll stop whining about this topic and find something else to bitch about.
