Official Draft Thread

Fair enough. Another thing I saw was that the offensive system he played in really affected how his offensive game looked, both for the good and the bad. I wonder if there was a defensive scheme that did likewise. He's not terribly athletic, so maybe he was asked to keep his feet on the floor and keep his hands up? I wish there were some defensive highlights to look at.

Oh, and looking it was 1.5 per 34 minutes, not 35. :p

He doesn't block shots because is a an average athlete without long arms. His standing reach is 9'0.5". Boozer's is 9'0". This is despite the fact that Monroe is two inches taller than boozer.

Interesting article on Whiteside and Orton.

Seems like Whiteside has a chance to be really good defensively. Seems to want to play defense. One thing caught my eye from an analyst.

He's like a big kid and lacks maturity, so it will be important that he lands in a good situation where he feels comfortable and can be brought along without losing his confidence. We got the sense that he's a good kid, still very naive about being a professional athlete, but seems to have his head on straight in order to deal with the temptations and distractions that accompany being an NBA player.

Maybe not a good fit in Utah, then?

I am officially off of the Whiteside bandwagon. Maybe if we didn't need a center immediately, but we need someone that can plan now not 3 years from now. That is what we have the Europeans overseas for.

Yeah, the more I look at the possibilities at #9 is, the more I see how much of a crap shoot it really will be. I've no doubt that there be at least one, maybe two really good players that are going to be picked 7-12. Almost a guess to which ones it would be.

I'm also going on record saying Monroe is my least favorite player in the draft. I soured on him when I saw him in the McDonald's game (Yes, I know, an awful game to evaluate) - but then I watched him several times over the past two seasons in college. He reminds me EXACTLY of Kwame Brown. In high school Kwame used to do a little bit of everything including handle it a la Monroe in high school and to a lesser degree in college. He isn't athletic, not a shot blocker, and soft. 2nd round, maybe... but at the 9 - no way.

I find myself agreeing with you completely.

It's one thing saying the Jazz shouldn't draft him, but it's another thing to say Monroe isn't a first round draft choice. Zach Randolph isn't athletic at all, but if he had any sort of a brain to keep things together, he would have been a multi-all-star like player.

Wrong. He's not an average athlete. Relatively speaking, he's a below average athlete. That said, I agree with you (I think?), Chitown and everyone else who's said Say No to Monroe. Dude was a ***** on the college level. That's not going to get any better in the NBA.

Let's agree that we shouldn't draft Monroe and disagree about what an average athlete for a 6'11" guy is.

All the Monroe talk won't matter because big men move up in the draft on draft day. I doubt he'll be on the board when the jazz pick--unless the Jazz pull off another Saer Sene snow job and convince atleast the Pistons and LAC that Whiteside is the next Hakeem, or xavier Henrey is Clyde Drexler.
