No one actually cares about soccer in the United States. The ones that actually do are insignificant. Hell, there's more genuine fans of that idiotic fringe sport of MMA (UFC) than soccer in the USA. And MMA is the laughing stock of the sports world. Any American that's not a genuine soccer fan (so about 99.99%) couldn't tell you which teams can win the World Cup with any actual credence. Whether they cheer for the phoniest reason on earth (civic pride), or because they just want to fit in with the rest of the mindless idiots of society who are just doing what the corporations tell them is the trendy thing to do, doesn't matter. So in other words, this is a completely useless thread and probably would've been better served as a thread finding out who our favorite porn stars are.

For those of you who don't know, USA is in the consesus group of death with Germany (#2 in the world) Portugal (Cristiano Ronaldo is, arguably, the best player on the planet right now.) and Ghana (knocked the US out of the two previous world cups). The US is expected to take third in the group but every team has a chance to get out because none of the teams are pushovers. Still though, Germany is the favorite.

I hope the US gets out of it's group and makes noise in the knockout round. Soccer needs more popularity in the states and this will do nothing but help. I wonder how much the average American knows about the US roster...?

Other than murica, Im rooting for South Korea, because I live here, and, I guess, Belgium. South Korea is **** right now tho so I'm not too hopeful about them.

USA's performance in 2010 was said to have set the wheels in motion for the sport to explode in popularity. They said the same thing every decade prior too. It's not happening - ever.

Having my summer class fill out brackets...

Obviously going for USA and Australia...

But after they get out its. England and Uruguay!!

Dude do you know the big names that are in MLS and that are coming next year??? I know they are washed up stars but soccer is growing big in the US... Just think how big 2010 was and then 2011(women's World Cup). It won't ever pass football in the US but that doesn't mean it won't get big!!

Perhaps it will become more popular in terms of viewership, but the best athletes will always end up gravitating towards basketball, football, baseball, hockey and even lacrosse before soccer in the USA - while other countries best athletes may all stick with soccer - thus USA never being able to compete (men's only). Women's soccer is a different story, but like all women's sports, it will never be mainstream in terms of viewership/sponsorship $$/etc..

Not true. MLS attendances are actually higher than NBA and NHL FYI. And league is only 19 years old compared to major 4 leagues.

My Denmark did not qualify:(.... So I do not have obvious favorite, will be cheering for underdogs Bosnia I guess.

I predict France will be good... They are good every other World Cup.... And they fell apart in 2010
