Players that could be had for Memo TPE

I've been waiting for the right point to say you've been the funniest poster here by far during my absence. Solid stuff.

I'm not sure I agree, but you make a good point. Thanks.

Yeah, it's written wonky. But the basic gist is he's showing how a TPE can be strategically used to complete deals, not suggesting a TPE can actually be combined with player salary. In other words, a 4 mil TPE cannot be added to a 6 mil player to trade for a 10 mil player.

Ok, I'm with ya now.

Even though that scenario is a little misleading, I think it serves as a good example of the possibilities involved with the TPE. I think a lot of people get hung up on the fact that you can't combine it with a player's salary, and take that to mean it can't be used in a trade where other players are involved.

I don't hate Ariza if he can go back to his 2009 playoffs form. Or in other words, he un-learns to chuck.

Not if there is one of our players involved in the trade.
Let's just say a Raja Bell, or a CJ Miles. The TPE should cover the difference.

No, can't combine the TPE with a player's salary to do that. The player we're trading for has to fit entirely within the TPE.

What *can* be done, is to trade say Raja Bell and the TPE for two players. But Raja for player1 has to work, and also TPE for player2 has to work separately.

the problem with all this talk is that they are not going to use the tpe............

Probably not, at least as far as acquiring an actually good player with it.

Where the TPE might become more interesting is in the Cap Space Wars. Forgetting the Dwight/Deron sweepstakes, there are always teams looking to get as far under the cap as possible in order to make a FA splash. The Jazz can IMMEDIATELY shave 10 million dollars off another team's cap with the TPE. That's very valuable (and especially useful in 3 way deals.) So if they're willing to absorb a player, they can extract youth/draft picks for it.

So which teams are your candidates? I don't see anyone that is a contender for WowHard being able to get far enough underneath the cap that it's worth giving the Jazz a player the Jazz want. Teams tend to be either plenty under the cap this offseason or they're Fakers screwed.

KOC was supposedly told to be "aggressive" with the TPE. However, there is no one on that list worth getting "aggressive" for except Rondo.
KOC might just throw enough picks and players Boston's way to make Ainge want to rebuild a little sooner than planned. Boston looked bad yesterday, KG and Ray are done.

Everyone is fixated on what "good" player the Jazz could get. But what we actually have is 10 million dollars of "cap space" for sale. In other words, we can sell somebody up to 10 million dollars of cap space by absorbing an unwanted contract(s) (though they would almost certainly have to be expirings). In return for this, the other team would be obligated to come up with an attractive package of picks/young players. This is why the best use of the TPE (in some portion) would likely come in a 3 team deal (with the Jazz playing facilitator.)

It's impossible to forecast these scenarios. What's (95%) guaranteed is that A) the Jazz aren't looking to make a splash in FA next year and B) Somebody else will want to but need more cap space.
