Reputation Comments, positive and negative

Franklin argued openly that he wanted his name changed and said you mods refused.

To my knowledge, franklin never contacted any moderator with this request.

Then he started getting a mass of infractions.

Frankly he looked like a guy that was trying to get banned given that he stepped up his behavior in response rather than toning it down. In any event your description of events is incorrect inasmuch as it implies that franklin received all of his infractions in a short period of time.

I don't know anything more than those two observations.

To be frank you didn't even know those two observations accurately.

I just never believed SirKicky's defense of his pal because I don't think his pal was/is such a moron.

I believe that he truly believes that Millsapa and/or you is a reincarnation of Hopper. I think all the moderators (and they can feel free to correct me, I'd only be mistaken not lying), to a person, believe he is wrong and several of us have told him as much. He has, however, been sanctioned for harrassing her on more than one occasion so I'm not certain what else you could be asking for.

But when it comes right down to it, maybe I'm wrong. That's why sometimes I listen to what other people say for a while and think it over. Wouldn't hurt mods to do the same.

We discuss a lot of things internally and have been known to reverse infractions or warnings from time to time (in fact franklin himself was the recipient of a reversed infraction). We give your complaints the weight they are due.

They were factual observations within what is available for guests/posters in this forum to see. I saw his comment in one of his posts prior to his two week absence around Memorial Day. The fact of his rapid accumulation of infractions within the last month of his membership here is a fact you have yourself and other moderators officially proven. Look at the "ban" thread in the Forum topic.

The fact that I never visited this Forum until Milsappa invited me to come here last December puts me in a position of just not knowing the whole history of this place. In fact, I don't have time to really keep up with current developments in my present situation. There are a lot of important things going on in my life, and as important as thinking is to me, I'm just not getting much time to come in here.

This is still the best forum I have seen. If my awe and appreciation isn't all visible to you when I come asking some of these questions, it's still there. Better information can serve us all if we just want it in our thinking. . . .

Wow. I don't think I had ever seen that clip before. The "Idiot!!" line made me literally LOL.

Blast from the past, from when SNL used to be awesome.

There's actually several skits where he interviews people. The name of the skit was "The Chris Farley Show" He did Scorcese, Michael Jordan, Bruce Willis and a couple others that escape me.

Chris Farley was just awesome...

Just an FYI, Franklin wasn't his real name, wasn't part of his real name and doesn't rhyme with his real name. So I don't think he was trying to change it to protect his identity.

Thanks for the information.

For what it's worth, I form my opinions in a net of fiction, sort it out my own way and just do my own take on it. It's really a waste of time arguing facts with lawyers.

I thought Franklin might be a female person in real life except for his references to drinking while posting in here. . . . that just struck me as a guy thing. The claim of being a government employee also affected my conclusions. Nobody would make up a claim like that unless either they idolized absolute power and had none in real life, or they deliberately wanted to throw doubt on everything they said.

I can only guess what the real facts might be behind all of the various professed/asserted statements from all parties who might actually know the truth.

The reason I'm honoring Franklin with this "concern" is that I appreciated his contributions in here and just would hope we don't lose him forever or lose more folks like him who were capable of interesting and informative discussions.

Having a totally negative judgment schema like a list of infractions is/should be a substandard model for running a forum. How about being able to "report" significant contributions in a positive light, and how about Mods giving kudos for good work, something that could count against infractions, so you only get banned when there is little positive work from the poster. . . .

Oh, that just takes us right back to the ownership and management issues we can never really shake entirely even if the owner/management is way above par or even excellent beyond what any of us could possibly deserve. As long as we're human, it is our common condition that there will be better things some of us could hope for in our dealings with others.

I see the point about having "moderation" and preventing the various worst ways we might behave. I also see the point that this is a private establishment where the owner/management is fully entitled to their own way of doing things.

Like I said elsewhere, as long as you see discussions like this it pretty much is self-evident that the owners/management are trying to maintain a fairly advanced level of discourse and it isn't simply a babylonian type of autocracy. . . . . you know, like whoever the king suspects as disloyal is just gonna be hauled off to the snakepit.

I agree with you 100% here. I thought that, overall, franklin made a good and valuable contribution to the board.

The problem is, if mods start picking and choosing who will be subject to the rules, and who won't, this issue could get really messy. There is no reliable way to quantify a specific poster's contribution.

True of the whole human condition. Sad, too.
