Rudy Gay ready to make his Jazz debut

Sweet. I'm guessing he just takes Paschall's minutes, but it will be interesting to see what Quin does.

Paschall's been solid but the lineup of Conley/JC/Joe/Paschall/Rudy hasn't been near as good as last year with Niang in place of Paschall. I'm hoping putting Gay in Paschall's place will make a difference.

Butler had 30 points in a two point win and hit the game winner. He looked very tired. Fitts was our leading assist guy and had 3 blocks. Hughes hits some big shots in the 4th. Dok looked bad most the game but then woke up in time. Thurl Bailey's kid, Hughes, Fitts and Teague were in double figures. Zaire Wade is so over matched at this level. -21 in 7 minutes. Jordan Bell, Axel Toupane and LJ Figueroa looked good for the Ws. Justin James had 30 today for the Cavs GLeague team.

I'm not sure Gay will look great or be happy in the Niang role. He's never been a low usage guy, and I think it could be difficult playing next to Clarkson.

That said, I believe he's good at the catch and shoot 3pt, and he's adjusted his game so much over his career I'm sure he can adjust again. It would also would not be a bad thing for him to take away some of Clarkson's touches.

I would assume a low usage, but important role is precisely why he signed here in the first place.

I kind of wonder how much of his fatigue is his heart condition. That is a major symptom from what I understand, and it can have real impact on athletic performance. Will be interesting to watch him going forward to see if this is the case. I hope not, I wish the kid a long and happy and healthy life. Living with a chronic condition sucks.

If we relegate the guy that should be our best post-up shot creator and mid-range shooter to being a spot-up catch and shoot guy then we deserve to lose out on what is abilities can bring us, and he deserves to find a better situation. Gay has so much more to offer than that, he gives is a scoring versatility we just have not had in a big body format for years. IMO this year the 6th man competition should be between Gay and Clarkson. Not so much Ingles unless he finds a way to get the spark back.

His heart condition has been present since before college. If he’s fatigued as a result of that, then it’d be unlikely he’d be cleared to play. I’d presume that if he were fatigued, that not playing any significant competitive minutes since the national championship is more of a variable there.

That is kind of what I thought. I just wondered how this kind of thing might ebb and flow. I have a couple of chronic conditions I deal with and they are never just exactly at the same level all the time. I was curious how much his condition might "flare up", so to speak. I understand that was part of the problem for Aldridge, was that he would be fine for weeks, then suddenly be floored after a game and had a difficult time recovering.

Aldridge’s condition is an electrical and not structural issue. I was actually surprised when he retired.

I don't disagree that Gay brings a lot to the table and those things should be utilized, it's just difficult for me to picture those things happening in Quin's offense and playing next to Clarkson.

I thought it looked like he is not in basketball shape yet thanks to Quin and JZ. Plus the Stars trailed virtually the entire game and he was carrying them on his back.

I think a lower usage role is probably a good way to preserve his career. Gay had his best 3 point shooting season last year, but it was also once of his least efficient years in awhile. SAS needed him to get buckets, but he's not that great at it anymore.

Paschall has taken the hit and cut his usage in half...I guess we'll see how Gay does. He's a much better shooter but probably doesn't have the same energy as Paschall at 35.
