? John Hollinger writes for The Athletic and compared Cody to Ziaire Williams and was one of the only people to point out that Cody's jumpshot was terrible.
John Hollinger is extremely established and is not engaged in the draft hype mill (whereby people gain access to prospects and their teams by creating a bunch of puff content, a la No Ceilings, and people who are negative are shut out of access when they fail to felate prospect X). This is what happened to Bill Simmons’ relationship with ESPN (I’m sure among other things, but they did NOT like his draft comments because they didn’t want him damaging relationships with agencies and the like).

I saw an interesting blurb that Frank Kaminisky is going to play for the Raptors GLeague team. Frank the Tank was a lottery selection in 2015. If you look at the 2015 first round selections there were a bunch of epic fails in that draft. It happens.

I remember watching Bryon Russell and Jamie Watson work out together at the Deseret Gym way back when I was a pup. Those guys could barely hit the side of the backboard on a mid-range jumper. Russell became a reliable shooter after a few years. It can be done. I just don't think Cody has worked on that part of his game that much.

6 games in, per36 minutes:

PTS - 18.8
REB - 6.3
AST - 2.1
STL - 1.1
BLK - 0.8
TOV - 2.1
PF - 3.6

Shooting: 32/23/68
EFG - 36%
TS% (corrected) - 42%
Wow that shooting. Eye-wateringly bad. I could probably shoot better from 3. ****.

It can absolutely be done. I was a good shooter in high school and after, lead my team in 3pt% and such. Can't remember, something like low-40's, which was really good at the time. Had good range, out to NBA range. But after back and neck surgery with a partial spinal fusion it completely wrecked my form. But at 30 y.o. I got into a rec league in Reno and volunteered at a local high school as a coach part time. I worked with their shooting coach and he really helped me get my form back, really re-tooled it since my arm and back don't flex the way they used to, and I lost a lot of strength in my shooting arm. I cannot shoot like I used to, especially now at a million years old, but at the time in that league over the next 6 or 7 years I got my percentages back up to high-30's and was reliable from mid-range and 80%+ on FT. You can absolutely work your way into being a decent shooter. Malone and his free throws are testament to that, from under 50% his rookie year to nearly 80% later in his career. But it takes serious work and repetition. Hopefully Cody has the work ethic to improve.

I think it is true for many players but not all. Some spend hours and hours in the gym and never become good shooters. I wonder about Collier.
