The verdict on Cody will come in by Year 3, I think. He needs to shoot well enough and improve his physical presence enough that he can be a complementary player. Right now, the Jazz are asking him to defend. They've been switching him onto everyone from Trae Young at mid-court to Kel'el Ware at the rim.

Cody had a couple of drives last night that were blocked from behind. One was blocked by Jovic and the other by Herro. I guess he'll learn to keep the ball in front of him.

Calm down, everybody. Cody has great physical tools, plays good defense (that will soon get even better), he is always composed and thinking it through on the court. His offense will inevitable come around.

I would even say that his rookie start is more promising then someone who as a rookie is all offense, no defense and hard to coach. Cody will be a very good player in a couple of years. The disappointment with his current performance comes from high draft expectations after a tanking season but don't forget that Cody would be drafted around 16 in any normal draft, so his development trajectory is quite normal and expected.

I'm not arguing with your general sentiment, but he is never composed offensively. He's extremely frantic on offense. He's constantly handing off grenades to teammates or getting absolutely stonewalled on drives. He really has no idea what to do on the offensive side of the court.

Yeah, and we all know that. But he is a rookie. Given all his other physical and mental tools and his understanding of the game the offensive improvement will inevitably come. The game will slow down for him, he will work on his strength, his shot and specific finishing-at-the-rim moves.

We just put too much pressure on Cody because in the third year of the rebuild we all desperately want to see potential stars among our young players. But that's on Ainge and not on Cody.

Cody was never expected to be a star. The kid was a passive role player in college and an overly optimistic #10 pick in a terrible draft.

People hope he one day becomes an NBA player.

Still find it to be a huge reach to say that Cody has great physical tools. He has long wingspan….ok. He’s slow, not vertical, and is also skinny to an unprecedented level. He is 15 lbs away from being 15 lbs away.

I honestly think that him being so skinny was a distraction from his other issues that should have been more obvious. Not saying I didn’t fall into that trap, just saying that his case is something I will definitely try to learn from. If there is one incredibly obvious flaw, it does not mean there are not other obvious flaws you should overlook.

Do we play Cody for this year for cooper and next year to get Aj or the boozer teins and then cut him?
This is why we drafted him.

There's something mental going on with Cody. He has two modes: one where he tries to be aggressive offensively, and one where he basically checks out if he knows he's not going to get touches. Who knows where his confidence is at these days, but he'll go from attempting an aggressive drive and high-level finish on one play to then barely looking at the hoop for long stretches. In that sense, it might not be a bad idea to send him back to the Gleague for more reps. However, I think the Jazz are letting him take his lumps while they're trying to secure some losses on the schedule.

If other guys are going to jack up shots with low efficiency and be careless with the ball, like Keyonte, Brice and Svi were the other night, it shouldn't be a problem to let guys like Cody and Elijah take a few more shots too.

Brother Cody doesnt *want* to take a few more shots.

If he continues to be as invisible next year, we might even decline his fourth year option.

His brother is going to take him under his wing this summer. Guaranteed.

Cody is a raw, high upside draft pick. Some of those pop early. Some are terrible. But +90% of them take longer than 2 years to look good.

Not that I loved the pick but we often are frustrated that the jazz don't draft the high upside guys. This will take time if it is going to work. The measurable on Cody are good.

He's been under his bros wing since birth...

Guys who end up good and achieving “high potential” are almost always good immediately in the first 1-2 years. They may not be fully developed, but they are clearly good NBA players right away.

When your entry point is this low you can’t really talk about high potential, you think about being an NBA player at all.
