Should Cody spend time in the G LEAGUE

Should Cody Williams get sent down to the Stars for a stint?

Cody made a layup in the SL through contact with a guy meeting him at the rim..... drawing an and-1. Making that feat more impressive is that the defender who met him at the rim was the most muscular man in the NBA, Ochai.

I choose not to abandon all hope. However since most here are obviously already going through the stages of grief, I will quiet down and promise this is the last hopeful post I make.
We need more hope, not less hope. Keep it up.

Well then I give you some:
The dooming shouldnt be this loud on Cody. I get that people are saying "he is a bad player now" or that "he is even worse than expected", but what I dont get is people already lableling him as a bust. If I compare him to Hendricks the pre-draft narratives were completely different. Hendricks was supposed to be NBA ready and Cody was supposed to be raw on the basketball skills and phsyically not there yet.

Hendricks sucked in the NBA early last season and went on to suck in the G League... but he progressed there and we already saw a better Hendricks at the end of last season, and it seemed to continue to this season before his very unfortunate injury.

I dont know why Cody being on that path is somehow worse. In fact it should have been expected.

When total projects like that get picked at #10, there's tantalizing NBA level raw talent under the surface, waiting to get out.

What's Cody's talent? And please don't tell me it's "how to average a meh 12/3 in college while playing with zero energy and drive".

You have got to be freaking kidding me.

Soooooo tired of all the excuses for this guy.

All the excuses? That was probably one or the few excuses presented by anyone in weeks. Most here have piled on the guy.

Its sad that someone having hope actually triggers you.

I think part of the reason why Cody looked so bad is that all of his offense was self created. When he’s at the basket he’s actually quite good but he can’t get there on his own. The GLeague is truly awful basketball and maybe if the Stars can get more organized he’ll see more success from system buckets, transition, etc. He was awful in SLC summer league, but played better in Vegas by getting a lot more easy buckets. I think there’s this expectation that once you get sent down to the GLeague, you’re just there for pure buckets. Works for some better than others. Real basketball is better for Cody than the fake GLeague basketball.

Silver lining is that probably can be a good play finisher. The bad news is that he might just be a play finisher who can’t shoot. Would have to be an elite defender type to get by in the NBA without shooting or self creation. His current day is very, very alarming if you had hopes of him being a high potential player….but he has fine role player potential I guess.

I still think current day Exum is a good goal for him. A little bit of shooting, slashing, and playmaking on offense and most of his value comes from versatility on defense. If you stripped young of his athleticism/speed (which the injuries did unfortunately) you have a very similar to prospect to Cody. Exum did bulk up a lot and played a lot harder though….so Cody has a lot of work to do to get to where Exum is.

I didn’t even realize they played tonight.

Cody Williams with 21 points on 7-10 shooting and 3-3 from three.

We are so back!
