Seriously shocked that they lost today. With Texas and Utah looming, things could get uncomfy for Bronco really quickly.

Naw. At worst, we're going to see things play out similarly to last year. They might lose a few more games, but it will always be close because their defense is still good. They lost by an average of 6 last year.

I want to see Ammon Olsen.

I'm tired of Riley Nelson.

If I were a coach, I'd let my starting quarterback that I chose go for the first 3 complete games and then switch if he wasn't doing well. He would then move down to fourth string. The 2nd guy would then get 3 complete games to show what he has, etc. etc. You don't want the QB quarter-by-quarter carousel in play. Or even game-by-game. Just let guys take some lumps and if they aren't ready for the current year, switch, and see what you've got depth wise in game situations so you know what you should be recruiting for in the future.

For instance, Brad Soreson, who is now with the San Diego Chargers and doing well, was once the 5th string QB at BYU a few years ago. And of course many of BYU's best QBs came up that way from being buried on the depth chart. You never know what you have until you use them in games.

In Taysom's case, if he flames out this year, he probably could transition well to a different position with his physical tools in the offseason with two years left to play. He seems like a fairly humble kid too that might be willing.

I haven't seen any evidence that Hill should be the starting QB. He had a few nice runs against Boise St, a decent game against a good high school team, and one TD against Utah St. What evidence do we have that shows that he can be a good passer? None.

I know he "looks great" just like Riley "looked great." But football isn't a beauty contest. Lets see what Ammon can do. He IS a pocket passer. But like Lark, he hasn't been given the chance because the guy ahead of him has already been annointed.

Did Brandon Doman get fired? I heard him on 1280 this morning. I just thought he was moved back in to a QB coach or something.

Basically. They gave him an option to return in some form or another. But it would not have been as a coach. Anae was given full control of offensive staff. And he did not want his previous replacement on the staff for some odd reason.

Everyone who is excited to see this particular scenario raise your hand.

Indeed.

Thank the Gods we'll be handing Utah their *** this year, or else this season might be a total failure.

Are you saying that BYU will hand Utah their *** this year for certain? I cant tell.

I was very worried about that game as a Utah fan but after seeing Taysom and their O-line I was relieved quite a bit....but Its the Utah/Byu rivalry and anything can happen. Bronco KNOWS he cant go into this two year break of not playing Utah losing 4 straight. And that worries me.

Lol, if Bronco knew what was and wasn't acceptable, his team wouldn't be a complete joke right now. BYU is staring down the barrel of 0-and-3 and Utah will gladly be the team that gives them the final shove into the abyss. The only thing more satisfying will be watching Jake Heaps put up huge numbers at Kansas.

It's infinitely harder to take losses that happen because you have no offense than it is to lose in a shootout, that's for sure. In fact, I think that's one of the best cases against Mendenhall. The main knock seems to be that they don't beat teams they aren't supposed to beat under him and struggle in close games regardless, but secondary to that to me is that BYU has struggled to be entertaining and to live up to the pass happy reputation that made them who they are. It's hard having a guy that doesn't specialize in offense being the head coach at BYU.

I only watched 75% of the game last week so I may have missed some things, but I didn't think Taysom Hill was too horrible. I thought the OFFENSIVE LINE was horrible. They didn't give him any time to throw. It's hard to go deep when you've got to get the pass off in 0.5 seconds.

Also, has there been any news on Hoffman? I haven't read any reports at all. Why didn't he play? Will he be playing this week?
