The HELL NO to AK and Fes Thread

We will sign another PG. There is absolutely 0% chance we don't. Every team has at least 2 PGs on their roster, plus Harris is injury prone. Burks might be listed as the 3rd PG on the depth chart (as well as backup wing), but won't get any minutes there unless an injury happens.

Guys, I was thinking we really need to keep a veteran presence around and need a big who can consistently hit a mid-range J. What do you think of bringing back John Amaechi at the right price (everything has a right price, right?). I'm tired of losing and his jump shot is a lot better than Jefferson's. I think Amaechi is underappreciated and y'all just blinded by hate.

Yeah, I think we actually will carry 13 guys on the roster, with 12 active for a game. An experienced PG would be the obvious addition, and would be active depending on the injury situation. Now that we're rebuilding, not sure Watson will want to return. Despite the Jazz history of great PG play, OVERALL as a team we've NOT been a good passing team. My impression is we've targeted guys in the last few drafts who are good passers, and that skill helped us decide on Burks...

I actually like AK.... IF he'll accept a greatly reduced role and salary. He needs to understand fewer minutes would help him lengthen his career. As Dallas demonstrated, a deep bench keeps a team fresher and more capable of weathering an opponents runs; bringing them right back as soon as the run abates. He has great floor vision for passing, and can still defend with that insane length...

Fes is obviously out.

If AK will truly give us a discount, then bring him back for something like $5-6 million/year for two years.

It is amazing how AK is still beloved in Utah with all the crap he 's pulled. Besides being grossly overpaid. I cannot believe anyone would want to give a 5 year contract. I highly doubt AK is going to take less than 6 or 7 million. AK will get offers from other teams and I think AK should look at playoff teams so he could have a chance at playing for a ring instead of a rebuild in Utah.

I don't think the Jazz need both CJ and AK. I don't really see the need to bring in another veteran SG/SF to get major minutes unless we move Bell/CJ/Hayward/Burks. Bell and CJ are veterans who demand minutes so bring another veteran is only going to take minutes away from Hayward and Burks. I am done with "bringing in washed up vets to take away minutes from promising rookies" mentality that has been a staple of the Sloan era. It is time to play the best players and move forward instead of holding onto "favorite" jazz players like AK. The goal is about winning and not popularity.

he cant find a better team imo, he can go to teams like gsw, toronto or else., with a better contract but play for the lottery. If he accepts a pretty sensible deal in utah, he may help the team be contender in 2-3 yrs. Oklahoma was full of kids 2 yrs ago. Now they r almost a contender. We have a very goiod young core, just we gotta fill the rest with good players, not overrated players like big al or harris with overloaded contract

Is this overkill?

Anyway I think it is time to move on. Even if AK was willing to sign for a sane amount of money, I don't see what the upside for the Jazz is. He has peaked ability-wise (some would say defensively he did 6 years ago), but my reasons for my HELL NO vote has more to do with mentality. AK and Fes bring a casual mentality that I believe would be detrimental to the development of our youth movement. Watson, Harris, Millsap, and Okur can be the veterans we need to mentor our younger talents. I say regardless of the $ it's time to say goodbye to these two.

I completely agree.

At this point we don't have enough players on the wings. Especially someone to matchup with Durant. AK could fill that role.

It's laughable to me that we sign a player because of one team's opposing player. One team's opposing player who would scorch AK no matter what anyway. AK's ship sailed years ago when he got married and got his max deal. It's time for his funeral dirge.

If there aren't any trades, KOC is definitely adding a vet to Hayward/Miles/Bell/Burks. I would guess that guy will have to be 2 seasons max. It also has to be a guy who can play big minutes, but understands he might not. I don't know if AK fits the bill on that.

Well said. Keep in mind Millsap may largely be able to fit into that group as well though, thus making our need to find a sf moot.
