The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

It's amazing how many times Harden and Westrbrook get traded only to negatively effect the teams they are traded to. Now the Clippers have both on their team and expect different results?
It's scary how well the thunder are set up with those clippers picks. They already have an incredible core and could have multiple top 10 picks still coming their way.

Going very much under the radar is the Pistons being hot trash despite all their top 10 picks. In fairness they have actually played some close games against good teams but still, 14 losses in a row and counting.

Last season I heard people tell how promising they look and said their record sucked because Cade was out and this year they were supposed to be sneaky good (some media outlets projected them as a play in team). Yet this year they may be worse than last year, despite hitting on both their draft picks.

Getting routed in the tank bowl by the Wizards is.... something.

They're playing two centers together along with a complete non shooter and their other two starters are average to below average as shooters.

Wizards aren't even that bad of team imo. Jordan Poole is just awful. If you replaced him with a league average two guard they would be a respectable bad team.

I love the collection of young talent that the pistons have put together but they have to add shooting and they are in a nice spot to do it. For this season just adding Bojan should make a huge difference when he gets back.

How is that second chapter relevant to this game?

They got routed by Wizards with Poole playing 25 minutes. He put up a statline of 10 points (3/9 FG 0/2 3P, 4/4 FT), 3 assists, 1 steal, 3 fouls and 4 turnovers.... but still somehow ended up +10 on the box. That was only his second game of the season with a positive BPM. He was -5 even when they beat the Hornets by 16 points lmao.

I have so many questions...
1) Why do you love the collection if its missing the #1 thing every modern NBA team is looking for?
2) Who do you remove from that awesome collection to add those shooters?
3) How do you magically just add shooters?
4) How did they suck for 4 years winning less than 25 games in all of them and failed to add any shooters or 3 level scorers during that time (owning picks of others as well)?
5) Why do they depend on Bogey (34) who will probably end up looking like a demi-god in that roster?
6) Did they desperately need to add Ausar (non-shooter) for that collection to be great before they magically add the shooters?

(dont need to reply to those btw)
Point is, you love scouting reports and highlights. But here is a newsflash: Detroit fans dont love that team nor do they see light at the end of the tunnel. Go read their boards and game threads to get a sense of what its like rooting for that team.

I think you are in a bit too deep. Self-creating scorers who play bad defense are the lowest lifeforms in the "basketball by analytics" world where most NBA teams and nerd fans live in.

However two years ago in the series vs Suns where Mavs lost the first 2 games Luka got heavy criticism for his lack of effort on defense being a big reason why they were trailing 0-2, and he stepped it up tremendously. If you go look at the last 5 games of that series (Mavs won those 4-1) you will see a very different Luka from what we see on an average regular season game. And it also showed up in the box: he got 14 steals in those 5 games and was really playing active on defense. He also sealed that series with stellar game 6 and 7 performances.

He can use his size and instincts on both ends, but he just coasts on defense a lot in the regular season just like Murray does. I think he isnt a top 3 player, but he is at least borderline top 5.

Part of the reason why he’s “overrated” is because he is actually loved by most of the public analytics. Casual fans think he’s amazing, almost every stat nerd will feel the same way. He has been great in the playoffs, but most of his reputation is because of his monstrous numbers he puts up in the regular season. Again, this is not my argument, but I found it interesting. You do have to be in a very deep rabbit whole to even think about this stuff, but the people in those rabbit holes are also the guys who were being paid to do it. And they aren’t nepo babies either.

I’m open to the idea that he’s maybe not a top 3-5 player and more like a 10-20 player.

Pistons simply has a very poorly constructed roster. They have very good pieces that don't fit together. Sound familiar? They have playmakers(they have Monte Morris as their 4th PG lol) but not enough shooters/finishers whereas the Jazz have good finishers/shooters(4 guys shooting above 40% from deep and 6 shooting above 38%) but not enough playmakers. That's why a Jazz/Pistons trade would make a lot of sense.

I just dont think you can be a good team if your entire core is on their rookie contracts and a decent portion of those rookie contracts are compromised of some of the biggest bust of the last decade.

I dont think Bogey is going to help them all that much. He isnt a very good overall player.

How is Jordan Poole being bad relevant to the Wizards? I'm really confused to how me talking about Jordan Poole when talking about the Wizards is not relevant.
I said not relevant to that game where they routed the Pistons (which was the ONLY thing in my post referencing the Wizards).

Please read what you are replying to.

Jordan Poole being bad is still relevant to that game....

This is just coming off as you trying to argue with me over nothing, yet again.

You can play a bad game and still have a positive +/- game.

Single game +/- is incredibly misleading. Over time it should normalize, but single game +/- means next to nothing.
