The Official "Ask A Mormon" Thread

I was thinking the Phillipines specifically.

anybody here who served in the Philippines besides me???

Philippines still has a very high "inactivity" rate. . . . people who stop coming to meetings after a few months.

well, we probably have the same level of participation as the Catholics. One filipino "church" that was actually a knock-off of the LDS, the Iglesia ni Cristo, uses a pegboard in the foyer. Members have to show their presence in meetings by hanging a name tag on the their peg. I was told if someone didn't come, there were folks who went out to see why not.

While I did participate in a good number of new baptism I focused more on strengthening what was already there. I made it a point to bring at least 1 inactive member to church every Sunday. Also just being visible being a contributing member of the local community with active and inacctive Mormons.

We spent significantly more time on reactivation than on new investigators.

Why do Mormons call youth preaching sessions "Firesides?"
Probably for the same reason the POTUS has firesides.
Besides, without a fire, how can you properly cook s'mores? They're just not the same in the microwave. The marshmallows MUST be browned or even blackened in a fire.

And BTW, it's not just the youth who attend Firesides. Young single adults (up to the age of 30) often have firesides.
