What's new

The official FFS sign Udoh thread

I’m amazed how there are still so many people who don’t recognize how elite he is defensively. I’m not talking good defense. Not talking about underrated. Legitimately elite.
He was top 7 in defensive RPM in the league two years ago... top 100 last year, but really only got garbage time. he has the block/steal numbers that back it up... he isn't a great rebounder... just okay there.

RPM has to be taken with a little bit of a grain of salt... Ed was second last year, but has never been a rim protector... switch/hustle guy.

Ekpe can catch the ball and actually do something with it. He is a great passing big man... He'd change things for us... like a lot.

I meant if he got bought out. I always loved the game of Nene and he’s available now. I know he’s old and hasn’t been getting minutes but still he’s gotta be better than Udoh.

You guys know he literally has not played a game this year and is likely sitting his fat *** (I'm guessing he's not in game shape) on the beach... like he wasn't playing... he got a contract because Morey tried to circumvent the CBA and got called on it. He got the Keith Van Horn contract... not even sure he went to games, practice.

This thread is about Ekpe... our last hope... keep other dudes names out this thread.

In 2017-18 with Ekpe on the floor our defense was almost exactly the same as when he was on the bench... he was backing up Rudy for most of that and we had like the leagues best defense. The offense was slightly worse... but basically the same. Last year he basically got garbage time only.

I hate to say it but this feels like a classic move that won’t happen because the Jazz like what Bradley brings, how much he’s improved and the potential that is there.

In other words, turn a blind eye, glass half full nonsense.

When Udoh doesn’t come here, I wonder if it’ll be because he chose not to, or if DL-JZ decide to double-down on their roster.

The latter. Signing Ekpe requires DL to give up two pet projects: TB and NWG.

Also requires him to admit he made a mistake with giving Ed the deal rather than keeping Udoh.

We don’t have to give up Bradley. He can be our 3rd center and used situationally or in case of injury or if Udoh has slipped and complete blows or something odd.

Here’s another reason we need to sign him though. If Rudy gets into foul trouble or hurt, we’re ****ed. Bradley can’t replicate what Gobert does. Like at all. Or like how Favors did in many ways when Rudy went down in game one vs the Clips two years ago.

Udoh can. We can’t pretend defense doesn’t matter. It does. A crazy amount in the playoffs.

Let me take yall to the church of Udoh...

In 2017-18 when he was a pretty regular rotation player he lead the league in blks per 36 minutes and was top 12 in steals per 36 minutes with 3.3 and 1.9 respectively. His blk rate of 7.7% is higher than guys like Whiteside, Rudy, etc. and he also moves quite well on the perimeter. He fouled about 4.7 times per 36... not great but much less than the 7+ PFs that TB and Ed commit.

He doesn't turn the ball over and passes the ball well... something none of our bigs are great at... He can catch and finish... something I did not appreciate until watching Ed Davis.

If he is released from his contract in China and we don't pick him up I will call my lawyer and have DL/JZ removed from office. It would be stupid dumb.

Well if it’s only about Udoh I’m a little underwhelmed. Guarantee Tony’s got a better post game and is better on the glass, anyway the guys even shorter than Davis.

The Udoh disrespect is bad... every time he'd check in I'd laugh because someone would put up a shot they never thought would get blocked and it would go the other way. You know how we see people's eyes get big when rudy checks out and then they go hard at the hoop? They would do that with Ekpe and quickly learn that it aint happening tonight and they needed to do better.

Do you really have a lawyer?

Jebus… really man... Tony Bradley's post game? GTFO they didn't even let him post in the G League. I wouldn't let him post up in my rec league.

Udoh's rebound numbers are low... some theorize it is because he takes the ball from the other team and goes the other way with it... they call that a steal. Some say it is because he swats so many shots into the arms of his teammates and they take it... they call those blocks.

Ekpe's arms are like condor wings... Ed? Ed averages like 1 block per 36 minutes.. Ekpe was at 3.3... without fouling every damn time.

I do... I have one employee in my small company... that employee is a lawyer. I don't know if she will take the case though.

We’ve talked for almost two years about Exum’s 10 minutes against Harden as the evidence that he’s a defensive stopper. Can someone please post the 2-3 possessions where Chris Paul thought he had money in the bag by getting the switch onto Udoh and each time Ekpe pulled down his pants and wiped his *** all over him? Someone needs to post that so Ekpe can get two years of hype like Exum did.

I’m pretty sure these people haven’t seen him play.

In addition to doing that you could look at the data and go... oh **** that's really good.

Like how he had a 7.7% blk rate and 2.3% steal rate while here... AD who the Lakers proclaimed is the defensive player of the year is at 6.2% and 2.1%.

He's a true defensive anchor... that can anchor an elite defense. He won't murder the offense like Ed either. You will lose some rebounding... I'm cool with that.

And his steal rate was 3.2% the year before that...really three years before that!
