What's new

The official FFS sign Udoh thread

I’m pretty sure these people haven’t seen him play.

People brought up Nene, Montiejunas… so I'm not sure how much attention they pay anyway.

And his steal rate was 3.2% the year before that...really three years before that!

I'm not sure if you are mocking me... I'm just putting these things out there so people understand... he was disruptive... hide yo ball cuz Ekpe gonna touch it.

I’m not. I want him too.
My bad... I don't think many equate steal rate or block rate to something meaningful... thought maybe you were teasing my nerdy numbers.

In addition to doing that you could look at the data and go... oh **** that's really good.

Like how he had a 7.7% blk rate and 2.3% steal rate while here... AD who the Lakers proclaimed is the defensive player of the year is at 6.2% and 2.1%.

He's a true defensive anchor... that can anchor an elite defense. He won't murder the offense like Ed either. You will lose some rebounding... I'm cool with that.

But the problem is, with Jingles and Bogey at forward backed by O'Neale and Niang, we really, really need a Beast on the Boards.

I don't know, it seemed to be working when we'd won 18 out of 20 and were the hottest team in the league.
Other stuff was working so well we could overcome it. Also, TB has had like 3 straight games without an offensive rebound. So its kinda stopped working too.

The drop off in defensive rebounding would be small. When TB is on the floor the defensive rating is like 113... in Udoh's only year as a rotation player it was like a 105... so we survived the rebounding just fine.

And when we were winning those games, I was here saying the same things, talking about the bench, our defense, and the fact that even though we won (which is what matters most), we were winning ugly. Really ugly. And barely.

The bench units have no defensive players (Royce is the exception, but he should be with the starters). We have enough offensive firepower off the bench JC/DM spend a lot of time with those units. It needs some defense... having Ekpe anchor the defense might mean those units actually become really positive. I'm not sure who the biggest issue is Niang or Tony, but we should be using this time to figure out something better. Ekpe would absolutely fix one problem... if Marvin Williams came through buyout that unit is now pretty complete.

and we are sitting here saying... those guys suck or are pretty meh... yup, all we need is a few of the right meh guys and it will change things quite a bit. Which is why the trade deadline passing sucks so hard. We honestly need like Niang/TB/Ed to have like a small cold that keeps them out for a week or two so we are forced to see what Brantley/Morgan could provide with those units.

I know the some LOL and LMAO and say "ummmm those guis aint ready... if Quin thought they were good he'd play them... they probably sux in practice... so dumb... the best players always play regardless of politics or experience."

You just don't know how they can fit in those lineups until you try... G League production is great, practice is great, but real game situations are different. Let's just ****ing try... we've heard about how we have a lack of effort... say Niang gets his *** pulled for Brantley one night because he isn't playing hard enough... he will give you more the next time.

Well you might have a point and Udoh may very well be the best option we have. Lose Davis, keep Bradley at third string, worth a try I guess.

I'd like Booker, he'd improve our bench rim protection (and overall defender) without cost too much in termos of screening and rim rolling, and it's not as if he's a guy not wanting to come here, but it would still need improvement at the wing (maybe more in terms of getting boards).

I am absolutely on board with getting Udoh back. There was a poll at the beginng of the season: who is better Davis of Udoh and I remember being surprised that so many people were underrating Ekpe. He was very good on defense, his offense is very limited but he has never infuriated me like Ed on that end. I mean whenever Ed somehow gets a bucket I am almost as shocked as if Rudy has just hit a 3 pointer.
