The Reason Why NFL Ratings Are Declining

It's no coincidence that these laws have been passed in red states against protesters engaged in a BLM or Native American Indian cause. Any chance Virginia will pass any law against Nazis carrying tiki torches?

yeha w eneeds to stop national socialist from currying tiki torches, dont they know curry is anti white!

Oh please. Why sift through page after page of mindless drivel? Especially when a good 1/3rd of the posters are blocked anyway? The mere fact that NFL viewership was already headed down years before Donald’s comment proves my point. So unless you have statistics to prove your view that kneeling is having a significant effect on nfl viewership, I’ll just assume you’ve waved the white flag and are relying on ad hominem attacks... again.
I'm baffled by this. I might disagree with Trump voters or others upset by the kneeling, but I don't doubt that they would follow through with their convictions, wrongheaded as they are.

I'm not suggesting they are even the primary driver of declining NFL viewership, but I'm sure it's not helping. The fact that the NFL made a statement urging its players to stand tell me they are worried about it. Which is good enough for me.

Empirical evidence that people are boycotting the NFL? I don't know of any tbh. But I do take the people who have told me at their word.

Donald promised republicans to repeal and replace Obamacare with “something” better. Oh and would cover everyone. He also promised to bring back coal and manufacturing jobs. Could you list 3 of legislation that Donald has signed into law to accomplish this? If not, his approval Rating among republicans must have really dropped in the last few months, right?

Trump voters are a bunch of bark no bite. With the exception of running over a poor defenseless woman in Charlottesville

Dude, I didn't say I take Donny Two Scoops at his word. That's crazy.

I'm saying I take my friends and family who have told me they have stopped watching the NFL over the protests at their words. I've told them I think that's silly, but I don't doubt they are doing it. I also don't doubt they are alone.

Facts seem to show otherwise.

http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/nfl...bc-cbs-fox-espn-nfln-regular-season-playoffs/

If you take away the Monday Night double header and include just one of the MNF games, there were 93.8 million viewers of NFL week 1. There were 94.9 million viewers week 7, the most recent week.

In fact, week 7 overall had a net +11 viewership increase from last year's week 7.

So maybe Roger Goodell should encourage Donnie to tweet more?

Overall, the NFL has seen a decrease in viewership in 5 out of the last 7 years.

So this evidence should clearly point that players kneeling has an insignificant effect on overall viewership of the NFL. Other factors should be analyzed.

My suggestions:

  • cost
  • loss of franchise quarterbacks
  • over-saturation (Thursday Night Football IMO is a waste)
  • concussions

Ultimately, the last 50 years of professional sports in America has showed a cyclical relationship of viewership and sports. 50 years ago the top sports were boxing and baseball. Those two sports went into decline. In the 90s, the NBA reigned. Jordan retired, the NBA was over-consumed, and new blood was needed. Enter the NFL. The NFL reigned from the early 2000s until around 2010-2012. The NBA is surging right now and I expect it to reign for the next few years. Especially when you consider the rule changes which power a far more entertaining brand of basketball than what we saw in the early 2000s. Once that loses its notoriety, football will probably regain the advantage. I don't see football ever dropping too much in ratings. It'll never be ignored like hockey or soccer are. It just might not enjoy the monopoly it has had for most of the 21st century.

A handful of states have considered bills protecting drivers who hit protestors blocking roads:

http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/18/us/legislation-protects-drivers-injure-protesters/index.html

I first noticed the trend during the Dakota pipeline protests, and measures protecting drivers was discussed in North Dakota. I don't think any of the proposed bills have actually passed, and there has been a backlash since the death of a protester by a vehicle in Charlottesville. I only just realized my own state, Rhode Island, is one of the states where the issue has been discussed...

That driver in Charlottesville is exactly why such bills need to be well crafted.

You think a law against people protesting in the streets would’ve prevented that trump worshipping Nazi from murdering someone? If not with his car, couldn’t he just use a knife or gun?

I’m just trying to figure out why laws against street protesting need to be well crafted since evil murderous people will just find another way of fulfilling their evil deeds. Whether it was a black church or an elementary school or ramming his car into people, that Nazi was going to kill someone.

You missed the entire point of that discussion. Let me spell it out for you.

I think protesting in the streets should be illegal. it is dangerous for them and the drivers.

Red said that some states are looking at laws that would protect the driver of cars that hit protesters.

I replied that this specific case is a good example of why any bills like that would need to be well crafted. Not just blanket laws protecting all drivers.

That means that I think the Charlottesville driver is a murderer and should not be given that blanket protection.

OK, I'm going back to looking past you now. Feel free to type a reply I won't read.

Maybe interest and viewing of NFL is declining due to immigration? Lets be honest - outside of USA and maybe Canada nobody in the world knows or cares about it. For somebody moving to USA from rest of the world they would be more interested in watching NBA or MLS as this is more popular sports internationally? I will admit I never watched more than 30 min of american football - just do not understand the game and it seems extremely boring and constantly interrupted by stops and commercial breaks.

I have no problem with street protests. The mere fact that they’re dangerous and inconvenient is what makes them so effective. What you call safety I call suppression.

It’s ironic yet unsurprising that red states are passing anti protest laws in response to citizens fighting racial injustice.

I find tea baggers openly carrying their AR15 rifles as forms of protest far more upsetting and dangerous. And ineffective too. When I see obese white males carrying AR15s I just assume they’re trying too hard to compensate for other small things.

Feel free to ignore this post. I don’t write for you but for everyone here.

ROFL. There is literally no way to prove that. What I was doing, however, was disproving your idea that no one stopped watching the games because of the kneeling. As shown in this thread, some people have. Keep doin' your thang though, brotha.

So you have no facts? Gotcha
