The Reason Why NFL Ratings Are Declining

I have a hard time seeing how people think people kneeling are protesting the flag or disrespecting soldiers. That is not at all what they are doing. I understand some feel that is what they are doing.

None of the NFL players used to stand for the national anthem a few years ago. Why didn't anyone act upset then?

When was this? I was unaware. If this is true and I knew it then I would've stopped watching sooner. This is all about racial injustice to them. Any demonstration or protest involving the flag immediately feels like disrespect to that flag and those that fought for it IMO. You may disagree and that's fine. We won't agree on this. I will always find it to be shameful. Had they used a different way of illustrating their point then I would've been a lot more receptive to it.

I now recall the military paying the league to have them come out and stand to help with recruiting to the military

Fortunately for them it has been a very successful peaceful protest. It has brought attention to the issue and helped get change with that issue.

I guess I see them kneeling for the flag as being very patriotic. I don't see a better way to peacefully protest to a very real and serious issue. I'm glad players are not violently or disruptively protesting.

They only started coming onto the field in 2009. Before that they stayed in the locker room and most didn't do anything for the anthem.

That's different as pointed out. The ability to kneel at that time wasn't there. I don't even recall many broadcasts even showing the National Anthem but maybe they did. It's been a long time so you must excuse my memory on that.

That's different then what's going on now

It is different, they weren't protesting but no one cared what they did back then or were upset when someone didn't stand for the anthem. No one got upset about the issue or feel people were disrespectful for not standing during the anthem.

That's the point, people are only mad at this. Which means they are not mad about not standing. They are mad about something else. The racism is a bigger issue, this is just a way for people to be against it but pretend to ignore the real problem.

I'll never see kneeling for the anthem as patriotic. Or burning a flag for that matter which they haven't done of course. I will not disagree about the protest being peaceful. I will disagree that it has helped get positive change. It's made us talk about it. But it has also separated us into two segments. People that applaud it and those that don't. You are going to have a tough time persuading some people to your side when you do something like that. That's just my 2 cents. I wish you both a good evening. This is the last response I will devote to this thread.

What are they protesting? It has gone significantly down. Just because some people choose to ignore the real issue and find something to be offended about doesn't mean it hasn't been very effective. It's only decisive because people choose to make it decisive and be offended.

What are your suggestions to bring attention to this issue that would get you involved and helping?

Police policies have been rapidly changing for the better and police violence is going down since the protests began.

You might have a point in that they are allowed to do as they wish and aren't required to stand. There's a policy versus rules debate in there according to an NFL spokesman. It still doesn't change my position in terms of my viewership going forward any different. If they want to kneel, so be it. I will still protest their actions with my own by not watching a single second or buying any merchandise. Others will feel differently and that's fine.
But if you're not watching how will you know if they stopped kneeling?

Did someone actually fight for a flag? Like another country got a hold of our flag and so we sent soldiers to take it back?
Or was it more like the flag told people to go fight and the soldiers obeyed?

A US Marine is the one who told Kaepernik to kneel because it was respectful. So if you are patriotic and such, shouldn't you listen to what a Marine says?
