Buy something cheap like a Mosen Nagant for $100. It's a rifle that holds a single bullet. I don't like the idea of having pistols in my house, but feel different about a rifle.

I restored the last Nagant that I had. I ended up trading it for a motorcycle. Lol

A single bullet? I’d like something with multiple bullets or that would be easy to reload if possible. And I also don’t want a gun in the house.

Golf club is a pretty good close quarters weapon. Keep one in each room.
I recommend irons over woods

I hate to say it but if **** gets bad enough that people are willing to break into your house and attack you for supplies you better have lethal means.
 
I have a katana set (daisho) in my bedroom. Carbon steel, the real deal. The wakizashi is pretty formidable in close quarters.
 
I actually have two sets of golf clubs in my garage I think. Def one anyway I know. Never used em. Maybe I will put a couple in our bedroom and in other rooms in the house though if the kids get em they might accidentally **** **** up.
