Tough Day To Be In Law Enforcement

So another video where I saw three cops on Floyd. Awful.

I agree with Thriller. A college degree, paramilitary-like training like State Troopers (at least here in NJ) get, thorough background checks (including past social media posts), and mandatory annual physical and academic requirements to keep up to par. And thorough investigations into misconduct by an independent team.

No more fat, racist, dumbasses.
Anybody with those qualifications will work in the private sector for 2x the pay

But that's not their job. It's not the job of a police officer to teach you lessons or to decide whether you need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. That's the job for very different institutions. And yes, it's an abuse of power when a police officer decides that they are the ones who interpret how and when a law is applied. Judiciary does that.
Thank god i live in country where police officers frequently visit kindergartens and schools, are being good mentors and teach kids about when it is OK or not OK to do this or that. I also advise my daughter that whenever or whereever you are in trouble, in most countries police is on your side and are helping you and can use their own brain instead of thinking whether they are 100% following their orders and law or not.
Of course, i do not envy the job of the police in USA. Maybe police should go to a nationwide one week strike so all those who say that police is brutal and not doing their job and it is OK to destroy somebodies else property can witness on their own eyes whether it is good or not to have police around.

Not necessarily at all. In his third year out here my buddy cleared 100K as a cop, with all the overtime he took. He probably made around 130-140K by the sixth year as I remember the jumps being high in salary over his next few years. Many cops out here make over 150K once they’ve put in a good ten years. That money, days off, vacation days, pension and lifestyle are far more attractive to someone who doesn’t crave sitting in a cubicle.

And that pension is huge. They can retire by the time they’re 47 (if they start at 22), collect a fat pension and then get another job in the private sector, clearing (yes, clearing) around 150K if not more. That’s after taxes.

I feel bad for the cop that lost his life. Hate to hear it.

Then you have the murdering scumbag Minnesota police officer. That video makes me sick and angry. Minnesota is going ******* crazy. Look at this police state ****. Unbelievable.

Apparently there was another CNN crew operating a block away from this one, and that reporter was not disturbed. It's possible the second reporter being white had nothing to do with his not being arrested.

This is certainly going to de-escalate things. Thanks Donald

ah yes. This is certainly going to be helpful:

I try not to engage with certain ideas by primarily shaming them, and I tend to not make arguments by appealing to demographics or identity, but I’m seeing a lot of white people on social media saying “I’m seeing a lot of white people on social media ____” and then offering up their explanation of the exceptionalism of what we’re seeing is appropriate, followed by an exhortation to “simply listen” to what the violence is telling us. I’m seeing strong black leadership from Atlanta pleading with people to not burn down their community. Then we’re seeing a celebration of white folks showing their solidarity by burning down black communities, or watching remotely and cheering in some sort of catharsis as those most victimized by these actions are the black communities themselves, and by people not even from those communities.

Possibly. Apparently, this crew was asked 10 times or so to move and they ignored it. I think it should have been resolved without an arrest. Someone with a brain should have talked to the crew and said - look, here's the situation, could you guys move to a specific spot where you can still report.

I think being white or black definitely influences things. I also think sometimes assuming that can be damaging because it's not always an absolute.

When I first saw what George Floyd looked like (besides when he was have his face crushed into the cement with a knee on his neck) I immediately thought he looked kinda like Stephen Jackson. The next day or so I see that the guy was actually a close friend with Stephen Jackson and Jackson was speaking out publicly about his death and police brutality. It was one of those pinch me moments like what are the chances I'd think he reminds me of Stephen Jackson and he was actually close friends with him.

I'm glad Jackson is a public figure with lots of platforms from ESPN to his podcast with Matt Barnes called All the Smoke. Dude was actually friends with Floyd. What better person to have speak and lead people?

This isn't just a race issue, it's also a class & power dynamic issue. Ever been in a poor white community? White cops patrol and harass them just as well with the same type of disdain you see in the Flloyd video.
