Lyles was never trash. He had a good rookie year then got minutes crunched last year after a slow start. You got to give up something good to get something good. Trades are suppose to be win/win.

If I recall correctly, last season Orlando let a picture out of their "War Room" which showed a white board list of players who Orlando valued but were underutilized on their current team. Trey's name was prominently displayed on the list.
He was a former lottery pick getting zero playing time. I bet several teams called the Jazz about him.
For me I liked the idea of Trey Lyles, at least the idea that Dennis O'Lindsey painted in my mind. The actual player Trey Lyles was irritating from the very moment he refused to play at summer camp as a rookie, right up to wearing Lakers gear and goofing off during the playoffs. So, farwell Mr. Proprioception and enjoy riding NBA pine for the next 4 years.
Of course that's what u got out of that. Lol. All I meant is I'd rather have DM over Hood and if that had been the trade, it was still a good trade. Lyles had nothing to do with it. With that said I'm glad it was Lyles over Hood

Booker is a FA next summer. The irony will be that we want a Lyles type next to Gobert and Mitchell sooner rather than later. More ironic, is that we wish we had a Millsap, Booker, Carroll, Korver, and Wes Matthews type too.

My bad too... I read it the same way.
Where did he say that?
I read it as thee would even give up hood (who is even better than lyles) now that we know how good DM is.

Yup and DL turned him into a home run with Mitchell. Excellent use of Lyles by DL.
When the trade happened I was like we sent Lyles and our pick plus what else for DM... then there was no what else and I was a little shocked. We got full value and then some for what Lyles had shown.
Locke has said that the jazz told Denver they wanted to trade, then Denver called back right before the pick and asked for Lyles. I'm sure the jazz were very active, but the way it sounds from Locke and Dennis is that it was a surprise to them that Denver called.I have heard that but never officially. I have heard DL talk in some detail about the Jazz targeting Donovan after the Chicago camp and his visit to SLC. So the Jazz were very clear they were doing whatever they could to move up and that he was their guy. Hard for me to believe that the Jazz weren't working the phones aggressively to find a suitor.
I think he meant that knowing what we know now, he'd trade anyone outside if gobert for Mitchell, not that he regrets not keeping LylaGood lord, please stop.

Not gonna. He is.Trey Lyles will be a good role player. He needed to figure out what he can and can't do.
But Mitchell is gonna be a star.
