No he wasntI don't see anything close to TMac with defensive upside.
McGrady's handle/athleticism were so much better than what I'm seeing from Ace I can't even begin to see the comparison.

Your version of TMac is after he became what he became. Ace's skill set today is as good or better than TMac's coming into the draft in '97.Wasn't what?

Yes, that is standardly how NBA comps work, folks compare them to who they could be in the NBA.
And don't pretend you remember TMac as a prospect. Nobody here knows anything about what TMac looked like as a prospect in the mid 90s, even NBA teams could barely scout high schoolers at that point. Fans only had 2nd/3rd hand reports, 99% had never seen Tracy McGrady play a single game before he was drafted.
Yeah but once you start doing things that “appears” to “manage” him, that’s a slippery slope.Usually I'm not one to say these kind of things, but I do think we need to invest in a veteran that Ace respects and have them in the locker room. Even if it's just someone like Jeff Green or Joe Ingles.
I think going and getting solid locker room vets (even if they’re just being discarded by their current team because they’re physically cooked) is always a good plan - if you have the roster spots.Usually I'm not one to say these kind of things, but I do think we need to invest in a veteran that Ace respects and have them in the locker room. Good job by the Jazz creating uncertainty with their pick.97.5 is saying Washington and Charlotte were close to a trade where Washington would've taken Ace but Charlotte was too concerned Utah would've taken Knueppel at so they declined.

Well this seals the deal for me: out of Tre, Fears and Ace, Ace was the only one who got the answer right:

Nah. Williams was a great pick, even if it blew up in the end. I think his bruising style complimented Sloan's system more than Paul would have and at the end of the day, the gap wasn't so big that Utah wins anything more with Paul than Williams. For us old farts... the Jazz took Deron Williams over Chris Paul because Deron came in a suit and Chris Paul didnt really want to be here. Bad basketball decision. And at the end of the day, Deron diva'd his way out of Utah anyways.
You pick the BPA everything and that is just what we did.
